From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Welcome!

Welcome to Wikipedia, Poisonouslizzie! My name is Ryan, aka Acetic Acid. I noticed that you were new and haven't received any messages yet. I just wanted to see how you were doing. Wikipedia can be a little intimidating at first, since it uses different formatting than other sites that use HTML and CSS. In the long run, though, you'll find that the WikiSyntax is a lot easier and faster than those other ways. Here are a few links to get you started:

There are a lot of policies and guides to read, but I highly recommend reading over those first. If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. Please be sure to sign your name on Talk Pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, along with a link to your user page. This way, others know when you left a message and how to find you. It's easier than having to type out your name, right? :)

I hope you enjoy contributing to Wikipedia. We can use all the help we can get! Have a nice day. Sincerely, Acetic'Acid 04:39, September 13, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Witness

Hi Poisonouslizzie. I just thought I'd mention that Harrison Ford's character in Witness is definitely not "an Englishman". He's called that by one of the Amish, but it's clear that's just their way of describing non-Amish English speakers (presumably of European descent). --Saforrest 23:37, 27 November 2005 (UTC)

I saw the film, and understood what was meant by "Englishman" in it, and of course it makes perfect sense why the Amish would call big-city Americans that. But if a random reader stumbling across the page doesn't know this, they will probably interpret "Englishman" in the natural way -- i.e. a resident of England -- which is confusing and wrong when applied to Ford's character.
Obviously one could explicitly add the context to explain why he's being called an "Englishman", but for a photo caption that seemed like overkill. Cheers, --Saforrest 13:30, 2 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Girl, Interrupted Controversy

Thanks for actually noticing the comment I left in talk. I just thought that if the book was to have a controversy section it should really have more substance to it. Have to say that you have done a great job with the article so I'll leave changing stuff to you :)
