Pointe a la Hache, Louisiana

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Point a la Hache is an unincorporated village or place in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana. Located on the east bank of the Mississippi River, the village has been the seat for Plaquemines Parish since the formation of the parish.

The courthouse was destroyed by arson and burned to the ground on January 12, 2002. Since then, government has used several temporary buildings, and the Parish Council has proposed three times to move the Parish seat. All these proposals were rejected by the voters. As of January 2005 work has begun to rebuild a courthouse on the previous site.
