The original Point Loma Lighthouse was built on top of Point Loma at the mouth of San Diego Bay in San Diego, California.

Construction began on Lighthouse in early 1854 and was completed in November of 1855.The Light was first lit on November 15, 1855. On March 23, 1891 the flame was put out for good because the presence of fog on some nights rendered the light useless. In 1984, The National Park Service re-lit the light in honor of the sites 130th birthday.

Today The Lighthouse is no longer in service but still stands as a Landmark/Museum.

- The lighthouse's lens is a 5 foot, 3rd order Frensel lens
- The lighthouse was the highest in the country in 1854 at 462 feet above see level.
