The area is built on landfill and is surrounded by commercial developments including a bix box retail outlet, postal mail center, radio station towers, as well as Eastshore State Park on wetlands and tidal flats to the north and south.

Point Isabel lies in the most southern area of the city of Richmond in the neighborhood of the same name. south of the Richmond Annex neighborhood, with El Cerrito to the east, Albany to the south and the San Francisco Bay and Golden Gate straight to the west.

The park features Mudpuppy's Tub & Scrub which is a retail store and post park grooming outlet for dog owners to clean up their pups before getting back into the car. There is also the Sit & Stay Café.

The Fluvious Innominatus creek flows into the marshlands to the east of the park.
