Point Grey Secondary School

Point Grey Secondary School is an 8-12 secondary school located in the Kerrisdale neighbourhood Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The main building was built in 1929 in a Gothic style. A long running student rumour is that the building was initially planned as a women's prison, and only changed to a school shortly before construction was finished. However in reality, the building was constructed and did serve as a military cadet training academy for women during the Second World War. Its transformation into a public school came in 1937 when the cadet corps was disbanded. The building served as a junior high school until 1962 when it became a full secondary school. In 1965, a new wing was added with a gym, laboratories and a library. Recently in 2006, Point Grey, in conjunction with the Parks Board, completed a new artificial turf field, and fundraising is underway to upgrade the surrounding track to a rubberized surface.

Point Grey offers Advanced Placement courses in Calculus AB, Chemistry, and Psychology.[1]

[edit] Point Grey Mini School

Founded in 1979, the mini school is a district-wide program that offers students extra learning experiences in addition to the regular curriculum. Students are still considered part of the main school and can take elective courses there. The head teacher there is Mr. John Procyk. The students also go on a variety of trips listed below:

  • Grade Eight: Orientation (Manning Park, Anvil Island, Camp Artaban or Thetis Island), Manning Park Ski Trip, and Bamfield Marine Station.
  • Grade Nine: Orientation (see above), Manning Park Ski Trip, either Ashland Shakespeare Festival or Strathcona Park Lodge (depending on which year it is)
