You did it the hard way. Rather than copying the content to the new article, then deleting from the old article, and creating the redirect, just click on the "move" tab at the top of the screen. It will ask you for the new title, then move the content (complete with all the edit history) and create the redirect at the old title, all in one step. Much easier that way.
