[edit] Spam

Please stop adding links to your http://www.bryantmcgill.com/World_Poetry/ to articles. This is clearly spam, and if you continue you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. --ajn (talk) 07:42, 12 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] It is not spam.

It is not spam. Each link goes directly to the author's work plus the translations. There are over 79,000 documents in this archive that took over a year to put together. It is non-commercial and a useful project. It is also a lot of work going through here and customizing each of these links. PoetryForEveryone 07:52, 12 December 2005 (UTC)

There is a lot of material on that site which is still under copyright and which you do not appear to have permission to publish. Putting links to your own site from hundreds of articles is considered spam, and I am quite serious about blocking you if you continue. --ajn (talk) 08:03, 12 December 2005 (UTC)

[After eidt conflict] A quick scan doesn't show any copyright notices for the poetry still under copyright (Gary Snyder's, say). So it looks like an external link:

  • to a personal website.
  • YOUR personal website.
  • a webiste with a *.com (i.e., commercial) domain
  • a personal website that seems to be violating copyrights.

To paraphrase James Thurber, I say it's spam and to hell with it. --Calton | Talk 08:07, 12 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] It is not spam

None of your points address its being spam or not. There are collection and archive listings all through the poet pages now - so are they too spam? As far as the site ownership - every site is owned by someone, so what. Just because the links are being set at one time does not mean it is spam - it just means that months and months of work are finished and now people can be shown where the useful information is. As far as a .com address - you are really grasping for straws. Clearly you have no interest in poetry, but do not steal away from others informational opportunities you do not understand or care for. ~Chris PoetryForEveryone 08:25, 12 December 2005 (UTC)

So, do you really think that people with no interest in poetry are watching pages like Antonio Machado? If you want to make a case for massively linking to a particular site, I suggest that you come to the Village Pump and see if you can get a rough consensus to do so. Otherwise, people are just going to keep reverting you. -- Jmabel | Talk 08:39, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
Jmabel, Thank you for the information. I am not skilled at using this system but will have a look at your link. ~Chris PoetryForEveryone 08:45, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
  • I just want to point out that Wikipedia external link policy does specifically prohibit adding links to your own site or a site with which you are affiliated. So while I won't get involved in the arguement about whether these links are useful, relevant, or "should" be there, the others are correct in saying that it technically violates our policies. -Lanoitarus (talk) .:. 08:40, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
