Pocahontas Middle School

Pocahontas Middle School is located in Richmond, VA, USA in western Henrico County. The school is operated by Henrico County Public Schools.
In January 2000, Pocahontas opened with transfer students from Short Pump Middle School, Harry F. Byrd Middle School and others.
Pocahontas's colors are blue, black, and silver and the school mascot is the Hawk.

In 2005, Pocahontas topped the SOL charts with 95% of students passing in 8th grade Math and Reading categories, the best of county middle schools. As of 2006,Pocahontas is recognized as a National Blue-Ribbon School.

Pocahontas's athletic department has grown steadily over the years. The Boy's Basketball, Boy's Tennis and Girls' Soccer teams went undefeated in their 2005-2006 seasons. Their Boys Soccer team is also quite good only being beaten by George H. Moody Middle School by a score of 1 to zero. Moody's team went on undefeated that season.

All of the school's choral groups did well in statewide competition at Busch Gardens, where they received all superior ratings in 2004. They also won Best Choir of their competition group, winning all around honors. The Pocahontas Middle School Band has won many accolades. Recently at the Musicale hosted by Busch Gardens, Pocahontas's jazz band took home a grand champion trophy. The Pocahontas Orchestra was formed in 2000, at which time it was very small and had to practice with the Harry F. Byrd Middle School orchestra. It has grown over the years and has become a respectable part of Pocahontas's music program. Matthew Bruins is the Band Director of the Middle School Band Program. Mr. Clatterbuck is the Chorale director for Pocahontas Middle School. Mrs. May is the Ochestra (Strings) Director.

Students who attend Pocahontas move on to Deep Run High School or Mills E. Godwin High School.
