Pleasureland was a theme park located in Southport, Merseyside, England that had been operating since 1912. It was Blackpool Pleasure Beach's sister amusement park. It closed suddenly on 5th September 2006,[1] due to lack of return on investments, and was said not to be seen viable to be kept operating. One of the park's unique features was its Funhouse with traditional funhouse attractions such as the Wheel and the Social Mixer. According to the park's website, the Funhouse remain operating for a short time after the park closed.
Not much is known about the fate of many of the classic rides at Pleasureland. On 14 September 2006, pictures were released onto the Internet of people dismantling the Cyclone, much to the dismay of local residents, Pleasureland fans, and coaster enthusiasts. [2]
On 18 September 2006, two protesters climbed to the top of the Cyclone in an attempt to save it.[3] The protest lasted for three hours, after which the protesters came down over police concerns that the distraction it was causing drivers could cause a crash.[4]. The Cyclone was unceremoniously demolished 20 November 2006.[5]
The Trauma-Tizer rollercoaster will be relocated to Blackpool Pleasure Beach and re-named Infusion. It will be located on the site of the historic log flume, which was removed in 2006.
The Space Shot tower ride will be relocated to Loudoun Castle for the 2007 season[6].
