[edit] Synopsis
The Simpsons take a trip to a dying mall. Several stores, such as J.C. Penney, are abandoned and others are run down. Marge and Homer shop at a discount book outlet. Hoping to see a new side to Homer, Marge convinces him to buy a refined collection of carpentry books. To Marge's dismay, the books only gather dust until she accidentally breaks a nightstand and uses the books to fix it herself. Soon Marge is hammering together everything from birdfeeders to doghouses and it isn't long before she decides to transform her new skills into a full-fledged business. Unfortunately, the residents of Springfield don't trust a handywoman to make repairs, so Marge hires Homer to pose as a "front" while she handles the real work.
Meanwhile, Bart finds out that peanuts are no longer allowed at Springfield Elementary because someone suffers from an allergy. But this loss becomes his treasure when he finds out that the allergy belongs to his nemesis, the one and only Principal Skinner. He uses a peanut tied to a rod to control Skinner and the school. When the principal is forced into a humiliating act at the comic book store, Comic Book Guy compares Skinner's allergy to Kryptonite. Hoping to find Bart's "Kryptonite" Skinner breaks into the hospital to look at Bart's medical records. He discovers that Bart is allergic to shrimp and ties it to a pole similar to Bart's. In a parody of a lightsaber duel from the Star Wars prequel trilogy (the music playing is Duel of the Fates) they fight through the city until they enter a Thai food factory, in Little Bangkok, where they fall into a vat of Peanut Shrimp and both suffer from severe allergic reactions.
As Marge becomes more annoyed by the credit Homer is getting for her work, Homer is hired to rebuild a wooden rollercoaster. When Marge refuses, Homer is forced to work alone and is unsuccessful. At the unveiling of the rollercoaster, its faults are obvious. Lisa begs Homer to reveal the truth, but his ego gets the better of him and he gets on the deadly ride. In order to save her husband Marge swiftly repairs the damaged track. Grateful, Homer reveals who really did all the work. Unfortunately the rollercoaster collapses on him.
In the end, Homer is sent to the hospital where he and Marge reconcile. Bart and Skinner are in the same room and continue their feud by throwing peanuts and shrimp at each other.
