[edit] Thanks for editing progressive metal pages!

Thanks a lot for editing many progressive metal-related pages. Those which you have edited are a lot better now than they used to be. Keep up the good work! --Jannex 10:21, 27 Feb 2005 (UTC)

  • Cheers mate... the prog pages were all severely lacking, so they needed someone to come and fix them up! --Plattopus 18:11, Feb 27, 2005 (UTC)

I have left you a question in the Dream Theater talk page. It's about ACOS. It's quite hard to find, so I'll put a reminder here so you'll surely find it. --Jannex 16:59, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Australian Wikipedians

Hey Plattopus, nice to meet you ;) I've moved your name up a bit in the Australian Wikipedians page (so it's alphabetic). You must had added yourself as Plattopus originally, bit it's now showing as Brad Dixon (in the P section). Hope you don't mind. Joeldixon66 04:51, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)

(Replying to your message on my talk page) Thanks. I didn't know you used Wiki either - 'til I saw it on the computer one night. The other day, bored at work, I thought I'd see if I could find your username. I guessed you would have at least had some input to the Dream Theater page, sure enough - you'd written most of it! You may contribute a lot more than me (both quality & quantity), but don't forget, I started here first, and you can't beat that :D
P.S. Liked the one on the Mathomat ;) Joeldixon66 15:43, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)
I take it you're in your room right now? haha. Yes I saw that the pedia was severely lacking a Mathomat page, and who else is going to write one, honestly? :D --plattopus (talk) 15:46, Mar 18, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Gigantour

Hi! Could you expand this article a little more. One of the requirements (see WP:DYK) is that items are over 1000 bytes. I know, arbitrary, but it wouldn't be fair to let your suggestion slide by when I've not posted others for the same reason. Mgm|(talk) 09:12, Apr 6, 2005 (UTC)

I have expanded it as much as possible, but since it has only just been announced it's hard to find things to write. :D I hope this is more to your liking. plattopusis this thing on? 11:48, Apr 6, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Ago Gratias

Salve, Plattopus!
Thanks very much for adding the photograph of Miss Holmes. PedanticallySpeaking 18:25, Apr 14, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Your signature

I went vote on some FAC articles today, and, man, that's one distracting sig you've got! The first thing that strikes me on every vote is "Plattopus voted, I see"—or did not, as the case may be. I'm not sure exactly why it's so noticeable—I'll admit it doesn't blink, flash, or play "Waltzin' Matilda"—but I really find it so. Perhaps it's something to do with the dark, full color, because light-colored or pastel images in sigs don't seem to jump out at me in that way. OTOH, I do believe using images in sigs is discouraged in any case, because they're server hogs, though I can't seem to find the page about it. Anyway, could you please think about whether you could manage without it? Best wishes,--Bishonen|talk 20:56, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)

OK. plattopusis this thing on? 05:42, Apr 15, 2005 (UTC)
Thanks, I appreciate it!--Bishonen|talk 07:24, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Dream Theater references

Hi again, Plattopus, sorry about the anal retentive reference formattery nagging on FAC. I do that kind of thing in real life—too much—I swear the red pencil just comes out without my own volition sometimes. If you're in accord with my suggestions and would like me to implement them, please drop me a line (and leave the URL's for the magazine articles somewhere I can find them). Best, Bishonen | talk 00:37, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Nah mate it's all good... we're all here for the same reason. Although, I have only followed the directions on Cite Sources, and the magazines that I have used as references do not have websites. I'm not sure what to do about it, but I'm open to any suggestions. plattopusis this thing on? 18:02, Apr 16, 2005 (UTC)
I've replied on FAC. If we still don't click, maybe you could write an appeal there for somebody else to weigh in? I'm very ready to believe it's me, and also I'd kind of rather spend my online time on other stuff. Arguments about references are too much like RL to have a lot of charm for me. Bishonen | talk 18:57, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)
I just had no idea what you meant, that's all. I hope you don't think I'm being stubborn with you (why on Earth would we need someone else to weigh in?), I'm just following what people tell me to do. I don't see this as an argument... I just get a whole lot of different opinions and can't accept them all. plattopusis this thing on? 06:45, Apr 17, 2005 (UTC)
No, no, I just meant somebody else might, hopefully, have more of a gift for making these things clear than I do. I don't actually think you are getting different opinions, you know (except for the suggestion that you must have printed sources, which is just wrong, as I hope you gathered from Mav's reply). It's more that this ad hoc way of getting them can be confusing, and Cite sources isn't what I'd call a very pedagogical document, either. Anyway, I've withdrawn my objections (though I don't withdraw my suggestions!), they're hardly worth all this.--Bishonen | talk 09:15, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Re: FAC: Dream Theater

Hey plattopus,

I have already added my support to the DT article - almost a week ago, actually.  :) I hope you can get things sorted with that other user - don't let it get to you.

--Durga2112 17:01, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Well done!  :D I guess this puts Dream Theater in with some pretty lofty company.  :) --Durga2112 02:21, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Van Halen Review

Hi, I noticed you had made some comments on the Van Halen article back in April. I am busy updating it and would appreciate it if you could look it over again. I would like to submit this article for FAC soon. Thanks. --Chevan 01:27, August 25, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] DYK

Updated DYK query Did you know? has been updated. A fact from the article Victory Tests, which you recently created, has been featured in that section on the Main Page. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently-created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

[edit] Dream Theater template on side project pages

First of all: Congrats on lifting the Dream Theater article to feature status. It's a great article indeed, absolutely among the best written band related articles on the wiki. Secondly: Although I am myself a huge fan of Dream Theater's work (check out the photos of me hanging with the guys here, scroll down to near the bottom), I cannot see the reason why the huge Dream Theater template you have made should be included in the articles of DT-related side projects, or even past members of the band. The way I see it, this template belongs only in the Dream Theater article, and serves only to clutter up every other article in which it is included. In the cases of former members, a listing of albums that the member in question has participated on will suffice.

There is no point in having Dream Theater's current and past lineup, discography and videography listed at the bottom of, say, the article about Platypus. That is why I in my re-writing of that article removed the Dream Theater template. I also suggest that the template should be removed from the following articles: Jelly Jam, LTE, Mullmuzzler, OSI, TransAtlantic, Charlie Dominici, Kevin Moore and Derek Sherinian. Lappado 00:16, 30 August 2005 (UTC)

I'm happy with that. I see your point, I guess it really is only suitable for the main Dream Theater article and its current members/releases. plattopustalk 05:08, August 30, 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for taking care of it, the articles look alot cleaner now. And I do agree that the template belongs on current members and DT releases articles. It makes navigating quite much easier, and it's a good looking template when used in relevant articles. Keep up the good work! Lappado 02:00, 2 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Soundgarden template

Nice job on the Soundgarden template. It looks really good and the funny thing was that yesterday i was gonna ask you if you could make the Soundgarden one like the rest. --Jobe6 Image:Peru flag large.png 01:32, September 2, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks a lot! If you find any other similar templates that could do with a spruce-up, let me know! plattopustalk 11:43, September 2, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Prog bands

I've been working on improving some of the prog band pages. I've added albums for Jelly Jam, Platypus, Shadow Gallery, Chroma Key, and Fates Warning, just to name a few. Please feel free to tweak them, I tend to get just spurts of time now and then so I would welcome the help. BTW, your Dream Theater work is wonderful! Great work, keep it up, and let me know if I can help you any. Justabaldguy 05:16, 31 December 2005 (UTC)

Excellent, great to see someone picking up where I left off (I haven't been doing much Wiki-editing of late, I've been busy with other stuff). If you ever need my help with anything just ask! :) plattopustalk 05:43, 31 December 2005 (UTC)
I sure will! I understand about doing "other stuff," sometimes it seems that's all I ever get done! Justabaldguy 03:01, 2 January 2006 (UTC)

Alright, I have a question for you: what's the best way to get pictures of album covers? I don't want to risk violating a copyright... any ideas or suggestions?Justabaldguy 03:13, 4 January 2006 (UTC)

As far as I'm aware, all album artwork comes under fair use (just use the {{albumcover}} tag when you upload it), so you can find a copy anywhere and use it without fear of retribution. I find a Google image search is usually the quickest and easiest way of finding album covers - and it doesn't matter where you take it from, generally any internet site that hosts album covers doesn't actually have copyright of the image, so they can't come after you. plattopustalk 06:58, 4 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Awake

Thanks for the help on the track listing for DT's Awake. It needed adjusting and I couldn't think of the word "index" to describe what you see when it's in CD player! Justabaldguy 03:43, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Katie Holmes

Greetings! You have edited the Katie Holmes page in the past. I've completely reworked the article and have posted it on WP:PR in the hopes of advancing it to WP:FAC. I would be grateful for your comments at Wikipedia:Peer review/Katie Holmes. PedanticallySpeaking 18:57, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Katie Holmes

Greetings! You commented on the article Katie Holmes when it was on WP:FAC. I've redone the article and hope to renominate it on FAC soon. But in the meantime, I'd be grateful for your comments on WP:PR at Wikipedia:Peer review/Katie Holmes. PedanticallySpeaking 21:05, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Octavarium on Faq

Currently there is no content on dtfaq.com about the Octavarium Album (either that or my computer isn't displaying it for absolutely no reason). If you need some info I found a nice Website[1] with alot of info. Good luck with the Faq. - Gelsamel 203.208.71.49 03:38, 5 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Caction tool

I'm pleased to inform you that my caction tool v2 is now released. To update to the new version, replace the link to the old version in your monobook.js with

{{subst:js|User:Haza-w/cactions.js}}

The reason I can't replace the old version is that the new one doesn't quite work for admins, and I'm still waiting for assistance before I completely roll it out.

Tell me what you think of it. If there are any bugs, then let me know, including your browser version in the report. Thanks, and I hope you like the new version! haz (user talk)e 15:34, 17 March 2006

[edit] Australian flag in your signature

You use the Australian flag in your signature, right? If you do, you're going to start having to use Image:Flag of Australia.svg, as the one you use right now (which is a png) is considered redundant and is facing deletion. Don't worry about replacing the uses with the png image, because my bot is sorting through that. —MESSEDROCKER (talk) 23:04, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

I changed my signature to use the SVG version when I noticed your bot changing all instances of the PNG. Cheers for the heads up! plattopustalk 03:46, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] DYK

Updated DYK query On 26 September 2006, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Stream of Consciousness (song), which you created. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

[edit] Genesis PR

Hi Plattopus, the Genesis article is currently being peer reviewed. I like the article as it stands now but this is my first major overhaul of a music related article so I could definately use your insight and guidance in improving its quality. Any suggestions and recommendations you can provide will be greatly appreciated! Link: Wikipedia:Peer review/Genesis (band). AreJay 21:24, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] R.E.M. template

We not long ago just finished a huge (time-wise) disagreement about the aesthetics of the template and had decided that a mediating admin's edit was good for all. With that, I'm going to revert your edits to it. (Since then, I exchanged the vertical-line dividers in favour of dots, but the issue was the size of the template itself.) - Dudesleeper 11:36, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

I read the Talk page discussion and didn't change any of the actual content in the template. I simply changed the middots (which didn't even display in my browser) to pipes (which display everywhere). The only other change I made was to link format names (album, soundtrack, etc) and change the heirarchy of the band members. I understand your only gripe is with the band members, so why did you revert the entire change instead of just that individual element? I'm going to re-revert it and insert the old-style band member section. plattopustalk 12:37, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
Nah, my main gripe is the unsightly edit shortcuts for the lazy, but if everyone else can deal with them, I shall try too. - Dudesleeper 13:04, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
Unsightly? In my opinion they're very valuable. Templates are a bitch to modify/discuss if you don't know what you're doing... it took me forever to figure out I had to manually type in the Template:TmplName into the URL to view/edit templates. It just makes it easier for newbies to figure out they can change templates as well as articles. You're welcome to put it to a vote if you like, or at least get some outside opinions. plattopustalk 14:32, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Progressive issues

I've seen you are very great in the progressive world. While ago I've started the Enchant article, and since then, no one has helped by improving it. So, it will be nice from you to check it, and improve it too. Thank you. --Λeternus 21:15, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
