[edit] Better Grades - Need Source
The article says "Studies have shown that any student with a PlayStation console will improve grade and will help in your student success rate." Clearly this needs a direct link to proof. Very few are going to take this at face value and assume the rest of the article is false. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 72.146.47.90 (talk • contribs) 21:57, 3 December 2006 (UTC).
[edit] Page Blank??
I don't know about anyone else but all it says on the page is "PS2"

[edit] PlayStation 2 with PowerPC processor?
I have found this site, that seems to confirm that curent PS2's are using a PowerPC based processor rather than a MIPS based design: http://www.edn.com/index.asp?layout=article&articleid=CA6350202&partner=enews&industryid=21365 (last couple of questions) should this be mentioned in the article?Golden Dragoon 16:01, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Removing the mention of the X-Box 360?
"As of Mid 2006, the PS2 still outsells its current main competition, Xbox, GameCube and even the Xbox 360."
I don't see how this is a point of note, as the PS2 has been around for almost 6 years, while the X-Box 360 hasn't even been around for a year yet. It's the word "even" that strikes me as particularly unsuitable as it implies that the X-Box 360 should have sold more units than the PS2, when you wouldn't expect that to happen for a long time.
84.13.1.86 14:53, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
I believe whats meant by that statement is that the ps2 sells more units on a monthly or weekly basis than the 360. I have no idea if thats true.
If it is, I'd suggest "As of Mid 2006, the PS2 still outsells its current main competition, the Gamecube and Xbox, as well as selling more units on a weekly basis than the Xbox 360. Mr toasty 03:38, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
- To user 84.13.1.86, what is notable is the fact the PS2 still manages to sell so well despite being six years old, this was unheard of. By the way NPD does its sales reports on a monthly basis. http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/11/report-us-july-sales-up-22-ds-and-ea-top-sellers/ Dionyseus 07:21, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] PS2 upgrades to PS2 HD
I got my own mini PlayStation 2 and my PlayStation 2 HD needs to be upgraded like this:
- Two disk trays
- A 600MB Memory Card
- The menu will look like Xbox 360, but even better
- No need to buy demo discs, it can deliver the demos automatically
- Will cost $443.99
Is it true or false? You decide. It's the only way to fight back Xbox 360. Best Gamer 25 July 2006 —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Best Gamer (talk • contribs) 18:07, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
What are you asking, exactly? Ace of Sevens 21:58, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
Hold on. This is a very false rumor that Sony will not design this console. I'll say, wait for the PlayStation 3 to release. Best Gamer 25 September 2006

[edit] NPOV
Is it just me or is this kinda breaking the NPOV?
The PlayStation 2 was such a hot item after its release that it was near impossible to find one on retailer shelves,
Shouldnt it be
The PlayStation 2 sold at fast rates after its realise. This cause it to be near inpossible to find...etc.
??? Julz
Yeah that sounds about right, but I thought that the ps2 shortage was also influenced by some other factors, namely a large shipment cut off due to some sort of crash? Mr toasty 03:42, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] PS2 Pricing
There is a new modification in the page about a new pricing in effect on August the 14th 2006. However, I am not able to find any single online and offline retailer that sells the PS2 at this price. Can someone verify it and make the necessary change please? Pipotchi
- I don't think the PS2 will drop to $99 until the same day PS3 is released anyway. ;) --Kuroki Mio 2006 22:00, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
- New Official Price: € 129 (Euro) in all Europe on 23 August 2006 [1]
[edit] DTS Function
Under Technical Specifications -> Sound it says, "Output: Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround sound, DTS (Only for DVD movies and Cut scenes in PS2 games)". It can render DTS in realtime. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas allows you to enable DTS in the sound options. I have a digital optical connection between the PS2 and the Pioneer VSX-D811S receiver. When DTS is enabled, the receiver's DTS indicator lights, and the relays can be heard switching appropriatly. The DTS signal remains in effect at every point during gameplay and pause mode in realtime. Owners of these receivers know that the indicator light on the receiver changes immediately when switching sound modes on the input equipment. DTS can also be noticed easily by compairing the sound in both modes. This can be confirmed by anyone with the proper equipment and game (like the one mentioned above). The digital optical cable must be used. Please consider removing "(Only for DVD movies and Cut scenes in PS2 games)" in the line referenced above as this is inaccurate with real-world games. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 216.248.86.81 (talk • contribs) 08:43, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Removed "PS2" redirect
Typing "PS2" in Wikipedia's search engine brings me to the disambiguous page, so I've removed the redirect link from this article. Throw 18:49, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
I find it strange that you would say that because back when you worth that message (according to the history of "PS2"), it was still redirecting to PlayStation 2 & it wasn't until today that someone changed that (& even then they attempted to turn it into a disambig not redirected it). [edit] Once Again, The Article is under attack by Sneaky vandalism
I have noted that this article is currently being flooded by sneaky vandalism. The one that I located was the changing of the top selling game from Gran Turismo 3 (which is the cited best selling game) to GTA Vice City and then rechanged to GTA San Andreas. This false information remained unchanged for almost 3 weeks. All edits should be critically reviewed for sneaky vandalism if anymore are found I recommend this page be sprotected. Valoem talk 10:03, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
You do have a point. Change the Top-selling game back to Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec, then block it from anyone editing it. Best Gamer 25 September 2006 Professional Gamer 00:10, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
Valoem, I think it is probably a good idea that if you can look up in the history, you'll find users that are performing such vandalisms. Sneaky Vandalisms aren't as hard as you can think. If you can find a Sneaky user, look up in the history and it should be there. No worries. Professional Gamer V19 talk 15 October 2006
The article is now under control. If anyone changes the Top-Selling game again, leave a message to me and I can take over from here. Professional Gamer V19 talk 16:15, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
I have noticed that the top-selling game known as Gran Turismo 3 has been changed to SmackDown vs. Raw 2007. This is a false video game. Everyone look up in the history article and the sneaky vandalizer is 71.192.237.110. If anyone keeps changing it, notify me so that I can re-edit it once again. All administrators notify me if anyone keeps changing it. If I am not there within several minutes, re-edit for me. Thank you. Professional Gamer V19 talk 23 October 2006
Aministrators and non-Administrators, click here, if the top-selling game has been changed. all vandalizers must be blocked. Professional Gamer 16:42, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
I noticed that vandalism is happening a lot on all the Playstation pages. Admittingly, I am not a wikipedia editor, I am a researcher, and I helped out a bit, but I can't watch it 24/7, sorry. 70.167.157.34 15:55, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Chronological List of Games....New & Empty
The PS1 has this great page Chronology of PlayStation games, but there wasn't one for PS2. I've gone ahead and started Chronology of PlayStation 2 games, so it's now ready and near empty. Please enjoy and fill it. - Keithustus 23:22, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
- Several hours of spreadsheet manipulation later, there are now 2332 games listed, organized by their month of release. The page also includes projected release dates. - Keithustus 06:47, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Erroneous or strange Tehnical specifications section
- Under Technical specifications, we have some dubious claims. "Variable from 256x224 to 1280x1024 pixels". Variable what? Pixels per second? Pixels per texture? This needs clarified to indicate display resolution. (And wouldn't this be a specification for the DAC?) "DRAM Bus width: 2560-bit". This also seems a bit odd. This is like saying that if I have two 1.4 GHz processors, my machine runs at 2.8 GHz. --MichaelAhlers 19:43, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Pink PS2
There is a pink PS2 coming out on 27 october [2] could some person please add this to the article, thanks. London UK (talk) ~~~~~, 20:32, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] VGCharts
Since I cannot remove it, can somebody else remove VGCharts as a source when the article becomes unprotected? VGCharts uses estimates by the owner of the site and shipment data from companies to determine sales figures, so it should logically not be used as a source (and if there are any too-specific numbers, remove those as they are likely taken from VGCharts). Thanks. - A Link to the Past (talk) 06:15, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
http://www.vgcharts.org/welcome.php VGCharts is not official, true, but it is the closest thing we have, and what you said about VGCharts is not true at all, VGCharts has its own sources. If you find another source for 2006 not the 2005 Yahoo one as that is outdated, you can replace it. However do not just remove cited information you should know better than that. 204.52.215.128 22:32, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
Up to this point I am assuming good faith on A Link to the Past who is "technically" vandalizing WP by removing cited sources without replacing citations (however he did give reasoning). This time I have gone on done research on VGChart's and its reliability and have found NO evidence suggesting that it is not a reliable site (this website itself says it is not professional), however VGCharts seems to be acting on good faith. Also I can not find another source other than ebay's 2005 stats[3] this is however outdated. Until you can find a direct source other than yourself do not remove that citation. 204.52.215.128 03:11, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- It's not assuming good faith when you accuse someone of vandalism in any way. Vandalism is a user intending to do damage to Wikipedia. And you claimed that the website claims to not be professional and still advocate its usage? Check the discussion page at WP:CVG and List of best-selling computer and video games. - A Link to the Past (talk) 04:11, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

- I did not say you were vandalizing, I said "technically" since you were removing citation information even though it was repeatedly stated that information is fine. As far as vandalism goes you clearly are not I stated that you were acting in good faith. 204.52.215.128 04:22, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- It is not even technically. There is no technically. You are either intending to damage Wikipedia or you are not. A bad source is worse than no source at all. - A Link to the Past (talk) 05:23, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

- You are missing the point. Acting on your own faith when it disagrees with the intentions of WP is bad faith, since you have been told before not to do it. Anyways I am currently writing an email to one of the sources used by VGCharts to see whether or not they believe VGCharts is reliable. 204.52.215.128 04:51, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- On my own faith? Did I not just tell you to go to the discussion pages of two articles? If you would, you would immediately realize that there is a consensus that VGCharts is not an appropriate source. And I know the person who owns the website - ioi, on NeoGAF's forums. He is not a professional. He uses estimates that he creates using shipment data. So, he uses shipments and estimates - at no point are either appropriate sources. If you wish to have VGCharts used as a source, bring it up on those talk pages. However, there is no legitimate logic to keep this source here with a consensus in two different areas with the only dissenter being a user who refuses to stop adding it, knowing that they are not appropriate. - A Link to the Past (talk) 05:23, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

- I'm opposed. We should use the citable shipping statistics, or the actual sales statistics, not somebody's estimates of the former from the latter. Should be taken to the Wikiproject page for wider debate as that site's popping up all over the place. Sockatume 14:13, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Piracy!
I was just reading the Dreamcast history of which it blames Piracy for one of the reasons it did not do well, well what ever the maybe, how come nothing was mentioned on this PS2 page, about piracy? look how much people have abused it by installing modchips! totally unfair to make the PS2 look so good when its a pile of garbage!!
Thanks
KaKoRoT
KaKoRoT@Gmail.com
- What are you on about? Abusing the PS2 by installing a modship? The PS2 is now an old piece of hardware - nearly 8 years since Sony finished development - so it's graphics are somewhat dated.
why the ps2 page has been edited to craps????
[edit] emotion engine and graphic systhesiser
are these chips all in one in the slim ps2?
- Yes they are. These are the CPU and GPU and have not changed specifications besides possibly die size.
[edit] Horrible grammar!
What is wrong with the sentance structuring in this article? Just look at this:
"Although Sony placed little emphasis on online gaming during its first year, that changed upon the launch of the online-capable Xbox. Sony adapter in late 2002 to compete with Microsoft, with several online first party titles released alongside it, such as SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs to show its active support for Internet play. Sony also advertised heavily, and its online model had the by Electronic Arts."
The sentances aren't completed, the second sentancfe starts with "Sony Adapter". What? That doesn't make any sense! Should this possibly be "Sony released an ethernet adapter in late 2002(...)"?
"and it's online model had the by Electronic Arts" Had the what? Comma-and? Very wrong, I'd say.
Also note spelling errors such as 'its' instead of 'it's'.
This whole article needs reviewing, correcting and locking down for a week or so because of recent vandalism.
The part about heavy advertisement is also extremely out of place, it isn't contextual enough to be just about the online and seems to be the about any advertisement made by Sony for PS2.
But then again, I'm not a born English speaker, so I may be wrong.

[edit] Best Selling Game
The best selling game is not Gran Turismo 3: A Spec
It is definitely either Grand Theft Auto Vice City or Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. According to another article in wikipedia, GTA VC just edges out GTA SA for best selling game, closely followed by Gran Turismo 3
Actually, no. The top-selling game still retains Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec, because the game still outsells Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, so it cannot be changed until further notice. Professional Gamer 01:01, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] proof of best selling game
can anyone get proof of what the best selling game is from a trusted source? that will set this issue straight because many people genuinely believe that gta vice city outsold gt3, and there are articles on the internet and wikipedia supporting that... here is a link [4]
The top-selling game still remains Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec and will not allow anyone to change the top-selling game. Even though Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, the top-selling game cannot be changed. Professional Gamer 21:50, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
Does anyone else agree with me that Professional Gamer is not being professional and is just using his own biased preferences for Gran Turismo? There has been proof shown that GTA Vice City outsold Gran Turismo, so please accept it or show proof that Gran Turismo 3 was indeed the best selling game. I would gladly accept the fact that Gran Turismo 3 is the best selling game if you can find citations for it. Thanks. 67.82.102.212 22:43, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
Don't you dare try to harass me. I'm as professional as I can, and you, are just an anonymous user, who never resgisters. Be careful who are you messing with, because then, you are blocked. Professional Gamer 16:32, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Professional Gamer is right about Gran Turismo 3. [5] That site (and plenty of others, Google it) cites sales of 14.36 million copies for GT3 (which is certainly more than the 13 million cited in that other article), and unless GTA:VC managed to sell an extra two million copies within the few months between the source used in the other Wikipedia article for that and this one (which is extremely unlikely, especially considering how long VC had been out by then) Gran Turismo would still have been in the lead at the most recent point we can see. In either case, the most recent source I've seen for Gran Turismo 3 shows higher sales than the most recent one for GTA:VC, so it's still safer to say that it's the best-selling game.
Also (and this is the reason I'm actually bothering with this), maybe I'm just missing it but it seems that someone removed any reference to the best selling game from the actual article entirely. Rabish12 00:44, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
