[edit] General Information
Player Worlds is the simplest, most used 2D Online EPG engine available today. It combines an SNES like graphic system with the creativity of many to create unique worlds in which a player may interact with many others.
The beginning of Player Worlds was when Chris Kremer, otherwise known as Consty, began to learn VB 5. He experimented by creating an Online RPG called Mirage Online. This game was fairly popular, among the people that knew of it. Then into this scene came Shannara, who will be referred to as Shann in this narrative. Shann enjoyed it, and bought the Mirage game from Consty. He then got permission from SquareSoft, now Square Enix, to use their old Final Fantasy graphics, and renamed it Final Fantasy Online. He expanded the game further, and made it very popular among those who remembered the old Final Fantasy games, and people who were looking for a friendly RP environment. Shann then split FFO into two sections. Mirage Online, and Player Worlds. Player Worlds enabled everyone to make their own version of Mirage Online. It was a simple system, consisting of graphic files, which were bitmap images, various .ini files for editing, and the client.exe and server.exe.
Then came Chad Roddam, known as Kael. Kael and his second in command, Maze, went on to host Twisted Mirage, a popular Playerworlds Game. Naturally, they had the access to edit the game and create new parts of it. Slowly, Maze and Kael took control of Twisted Mirage. This angered the owners and they fired both Kael and Maze. Then later on Kael and Maze took a town name from Twisted Mirage, Jerith, changed a couple of letters, and started a game named Jerrath.Jerrath became a Popular Playerworlds game due to the fact that Kael did not advertise the Playerworlds engine. A lot of people would play Jerrath not knowing they could make their own game. In time after a lot of people started advertising another server made with the Playerworlds Software, others began to find out about playerworlds. A lot of people over at the Playerworlds Community were upset with the way Kael and Maze acted. A lot of controversy followed afterwards but was all settled. Jerrath began to give credit to Playerworlds and Kael was accepted into the Playerworlds Community.
One of the few players of Jerrath who decided to create their own game was Jay Gunter, known as Granite. He was the Founder and current owner of Benign Online. He started a couple of months after playing Jerrath, when he found out that he could create his own game. Granite started slow at first but got the help from a mapper over at Twisted Mirage named Tyler, also known as Hibeko. Another person known as Scorpio also came from the game Jerrath and he created a game called Secrets of Mirage. Secrets of Mirage is still ran today by Scorpio.
Kael then began helping Shann in programming Player Worlds. They created the extremely popular version, 1.0cx3. Then Shann sold PW to Kael. Kael then worked on it, and created 1.0cx4. This was the golden era of PW. Then Kael revamped PW, changing what it was. With a new GUI by Draub and a slew of new features, he redefined the art of creating a PW. This was version 1.3. More versions soon followed, ending at 1.4.2. Then PW was hacked repeatedly, and things were not going well. To add the trouble, Kael's dedicated server began to malfunction. All of these incidents served to destroy the PW that once was.
