Play Attention

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Play Attention is a NASA inspired comuter feedback system designed to increase attention and cognitive skills. It utilizes a sensor lined bike helmet that allows the wearer to control Play Attention's video exercises by mind/attention alone. As opposed to traditional neurofeedback (NF)or brainwave devices, Play Attention is a simple physiological monitor. It cannot be re-calibrated from factory settings.

Play Attention is used in over 450 school systems as of 2006. It is also used internationally in homes, learning centers, psychologist's offices, and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) hospitals. Distributed since 1996, it is the most widely distributed educational learning system for attention problems.

Unique Logic + Technology (ULT), the makers of Play Attention also make no claims regarding brainwave changes as that is not their training goal. Play Attention strives to produce cognitive changes through teaching/coaching that will in turn produce long-term behavioral outcomes. ULT integrated and patented cognitive skill training with feedback. In other words, brainwave activity is used in the background only to set the stage for learning cognitive skills that are typically deficit in individuals with attention problems. A behavioral shaping program is also integrated to eliminate self distracing behaviors like calling out, fidgeting, etc.

NASA initially used feedback training for astronauts and pilots to reduce accidents by increasing attention. Play Attention is a patented advancement of that technology.
