PlayMakers Repertory Company

Playmakers Repertory Company is an American theatre company.
The origin of the name "Playmakers" is manifold. it has roots in Elizabethan England, comes from a campus theatre group organized in 1918, founded by Frederick Koch. In 1975 the Carolina Playmakers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill were formed. Playmakers Repertory Company (PRC) was to be unique among regional theatres nationwide for its use of a company of actors it retains from show to show.

[edit] Union Affiliations
Playmakers is a member of the League of Resident Theatres (LORT), one of around 60 professional Equity theatres in the United States. The theatre is a member of the Actors' Equity Association (Equity), the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers, and the North Carolina Theatre Conference.

The company presents five plays per season in the Paul Green Theatre, which has 500 seats and was completed in 1978. This building is on campus of the university, but is not technically part of the university, though they form a symbiotic relationship. The Center for Dramatic Art was opened in 1998 adjacent to and enveloping the Paul Green and Elizabeth Price Kenan Theatres. This building is now the home of th entire Department of Dramatic Art.

The theater is one of the few resident company theaters remaining in the United States.
Notable members of the company include Ray Dooley, John Feltch, Julie Fishell, Jeff Cornell, and Ken Strong.
