In 1977, Plastic Letters, Blondie's second album on Chrysalis Records was released. It contained two top ten UK singles, and was the last Blondie album to be produced by Richard Gottehrer.

"Denis" is a cover of the 1963 hit, "Denise", by Randy & the Rainbows. It was a hit all over Europe; reaching Number 2 in February 1978 in the United Kingdom.

"(I'm Always Touched by Your) Presence, Dear" was the second single from the album, reaching number 10 in May 1978. The song was written by bass guitar player Gary Valentine, shortly before his departure from the band, just before the album was released.

"Kidnapper" was a hit in Japan.
