Plasma will be the new desktop and panel user interface tool for KDE 4, the next major release of the K Desktop Environment. This will combine the KDE panel, the desktop, and SuperKaramba into one application, providing an API for developers to write widgets and mini-applications called applets, to place on the desktop and panel.
