Planetary Collegium

The Planetary Collegium has a transdisciplinary perspective which seeks the integration of art, science, technology, and consciousness research within a post-biological culture. Founded by Roy Ascott on 1st May 2003, the Planetary Collegium is a worldwide research community whose innovative structure involves collaborative work online and at regular meetings and public presentations around the world. It has evolved from CAiiA-STAR, a research platform that combined, CAiiA, the Centre for Advanced Inquiry in the Interactive Arts established by Ascott in 1994, at University of Wales College Newport, and STAR, the Science Technology and Art Research centre, which he established at the University of Plymouth in 1997. The administrative centre of the Collegium is situated in the Faculty of Technology, School of Computing, Communications and Electronics, University of Plymouth, England.The Collegium (President, and Director of the CAiiA-Hub, Professor Roy Ascott) has nodes at the Hochschule fuer Gestalt und Kunst, Zurich (Director Professor Jill Scott); at the Nuova Accademia di Belle Arte, Milan (Director, Francesco Monico) [1]; and at the University of Peking, Beijing (Director, Dr. Kenneth Fields). There are currently forty-eight doctoral candidates registered in the Collegium. [3]

PhD graduates include: Peter Anders, Jon Bedworth, Geoff Cox, Char Davies, Elisa Giaccardi, Dew Harrison, Pamela Jennings, Eduardo Kac, Joseph Nechvatal, Miroslaw Rogala, Gretchen Schiller, Jill Scott, Bill Seaman, Christa Sommerer, Victoria Vesna.

The Collegium is regularly invited to hold its research sessions at universities and media centres abroad.
