Planet Edifice
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Edifice is a fictional planet in the Star Ocean universe. It is the primary setting of the third game in the series, Star Ocean: Blue Sphere. Edifice is home to two primary species, humans very similar to those on Earth, and the native Edifans, an underwater race. Edifice is considered an underdeveloped planet by Earth Federation standards. Edifice has only one known continent, however there is a possibility others exist.
Edifice is dotted by many cities as well as ancient ruins with secrets unknown to the populace. Significant settlements on Edifice are:
- Scout Village - The first town encountered by the player, it generally serves as a trading post for merchants. Mysterious ruins are present on its outskirts.
- Aba City - A very large city, second only to Knott in terms of size; it also houses mysterious ruins that extend far below the city. A section of the ruins has been converted into a dungeon to hold the king's prisoners.
- Slave Village - A small hamlet to the south which exists under Aba's rule.
- Agit - Located in the treetops near Slave Village, this settlement is inhabited by resistance fighters opposed to Aba.
- Bunny City - A town near Nussa Beach, the last stopping point before the large desert that leads to Knott.
- Knott - The largest known city on Edifice, known for its laboratories and scholars. Resting above the city is a massive flying saucer known as Grand Knott.
- Lung - A town on the other side of the land of the undead, Scream; it is ruled by the old and wise Jima.
- Aqua City - An underwater, moving city where the native Edifans live; it is ruled by the three kings of Bie, Laum, and Nero.
- Cosmo City - A city on a space station orbiting the planet. It is inhabited entirely by robots.
Edifice has a unique history, in that every 200 years some sort of disaster takes place that virtually wipes out civilization; the few remaining survivors then rebuild their shattered planet. Most recently, Edifice was struck by a tsunami 200 years ago. Precis was looking for Opera Vectra and Ernest Raviede when her ship crashed on Edifice, pulled into the planet by some unknown force. It is later learned that Opera and Ernest's ship suffered the same fate. The group arrived at about the time Edifice was supposed to be wiped out by another disaster.
However, Precis, Opera, Ernest, and the rest of the heroes from Star Ocean: The Second Story defeated the girl Rival, who was possessed by a computer known as Mother Edifice. Mother Edifice was a large computer built by the Moorians of the original Star Ocean. The wormhole that swallowed the continent of Mu also sent the Moorians to Edifice, in addition to Roak and Fargett. Fearing that technology could only bring about conflict and suffering, the Moorians built the computer to protect Edifice from itself. This computer was destroyed by the heroes of Star Ocean: The Second Story, ending the vicious destructive cycle of Edifice.
