PKO Bank Polski
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
PKO Bank Polski, Spółka Akcyjna (PKO BP S.A.) is Poland's largest bank.
The privatized remnant of Poland's state bank, PKO BP is today one of the largest companies in Poland and on the Forbes Global 2000 list. PKO stood for Powszechna Kasa Oszczędności which roughly means Popular Bank, but currently only the acronym is used.
Because of its high profile, PKO is still one of the best recognized brands in Poland. The year the company debuted on the Warsaw Stock Exchange and saw its shares bought by mostly average Poles, many of whom never bought stock before. Today PKO employs over 37,000 people and has a revenue of over 2 billion US dollars. In recent years the bank has invested outside Poland, notably the acquisition of Kredyt Bank Ukraina (Ukraine). The company is headquartered in central Warsaw.
