Phyllis Jordan opened the first PJ's outlet on Maple Street, in the University area of New Orleans, in September 1978. The first PJ’s quickly became a local favorite for its fresh brewed coffee and tea, fresh pastries and desserts, and its relaxed atmosphere.

The first PJ’s franchised location was opened in Mandeville, LA, in 1989. Since then, PJ’s has opened several locations in New Orleans and other cities.
