Pittsgrove Township is a Township in Salem County, New Jersey, United States. As of the United States 2000 Census, the township population was 8,893.
Olivet (2000 Census population of 1,420) is a census-designated place and unincorporated area located within Pittsgrove Township.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 119.0 km² (45.9 mi²). 117.0 km² (45.2 mi²) of it is land and 1.9 km² (0.7 mi²) of it (1.61%) is water.
Pittsgrove Township borders Upper Pittsgrove Township and Elmer Borough. Pittsgrove Township also borders Cumberland County and Gloucester County.

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 8,893 people, 3,020 households, and 2,422 families residing in the township. The population density was 76.0/km² (196.8/mi²). There were 3,155 housing units at an average density of 27.0/km² (69.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the township was 88.14% White, 8.04% African American, 0.38% Native American, 0.58% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 1.29% from other races, and 1.52% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.41% of the population.
There were 3,020 households out of which 38.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.9% were married couples living together, 10.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.8% were non-families. 16.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.90 and the average family size was 3.23.
In the township the population was spread out with 26.7% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 26.1% from 45 to 64, and 11.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 98.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.4 males.
The median income for a household in the township was $56,687, and the median income for a family was $63,266. Males had a median income of $42,653 versus $27,173 for females. The per capita income for the township was $21,624. About 3.5% of families and 5.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.8% of those under age 18 and 4.1% of those age 65 or over.

Pittsgrove is governed by a five-member Township Committee. Members of the Pittsgrove Township Committee are Mayor Peter I. Vörös, Deputy Mayor Jeffery T. Ridgway, Linda A. DuBois, Kenneth P. Martin and Christine L. Seeney.[1].
[edit] Federal, state and county representation
Pittsgrove Township is in the Second Congressional District and is part of New Jersey's 3rd Legislative District.[2].
New Jersey's Second Congressional District, covering all of Atlantic County, Cape May County, Cumberland County and Salem County and portions of Burlington County, Camden County and Gloucester County, is represented by Frank LoBiondo (R, Vineland). New Jersey is represented in the Senate by Frank Lautenberg (D, Cliffside Park) and Robert Menendez (D, Hoboken).
The 3rd legislative district of the New Jersey Legislature is represented in the State Senate by Stephen M. Sweeney (D, Thorofare) and in the Assembly by John J. Burzichelli (D, Thorofare) and Douglas H. Fisher (D, Thorofare). The Governor of New Jersey is Jon Corzine (D, Hoboken).
Salem County is governed by a seven-member Board of Chosen Freeholders. Salem County's Freeholders are Freeholder Director Lee R. Ware (term ends 2007), Freeholder Deputy Director Bruce L. Bobbitt (2008), Susan A. Bestwick (2007), Charles R. Sullivan (2008), David Lindenmuth (2008), R. Benjamin Simmermon, Jr. (2006) and Beth E. Timberman (2006).

The Pittsgrove Township School District serves students in kindergarten through twelfth grade. Schools in the district are Norma Elementary School with 173 students in grades K-2, Olivet Elementary School with 445 students in grades 1-4, Pittsgrove Township Middle School with 642 students in grades 5-8 and A.P. Schalick High School [1] for grades 9-12. Students from Elmer attend the district's high school as part of a sending/receiving relationship.
