Pitch (sports)

A pitch is an open outdoor area for various activities. It is used in British and Australian English; the comparable term in American English is field. However, there are some differences, as a cricket field contains the cricket pitch.

A pitch is often a regulation space, as in a football pitch.

Games that are played on a pitch include:

• bocce
• horseshoes
