Pinto, Madrid

Pinto is a town in the southeast of Madrid (Spain) (40°15′N 3°42′W).

Formerly, the belief was that Pinto sitted on the geographic middle of the Iberian Peninsula, of there is name, that it comes from the Latin Punctum, "point".

  • Ermita de San Antón ("Saint Anthony Abbot hermitage"). Its environment is now transformed by the construction of a mall.
  • Ermita del Cristo ("Christ hermitage") In its interior is a crucified Christ that it enjoys great popular fervor.
  • Iglesia parroquial de Santo Domingo de Silos ("Parish of Saint Dominique of Silos")

  • Éboli tower, wher the princess of Eboli was held.
  • Centro Cultural Infanta Cristina. It was thought until recently that this building, then known as Casa de la Cadena (House of the Chain), provided accommodations for the Catholic Monarchs, but serious historical studies deny such possibility.

A Spanish proverbial phrase is estar entre Pinto y Valdemoro, literally "being between Pinto and Valdemoro", meaning "being neither here nor there", "being undecided".

After two large urban development operations, the image of the town has changed drastically while services and facilities have not matched the fast population growth.

  • Project of construction of an automobile complex, that would include: High speed circuit (Including Formula One and MotoGP competitions, zone of gokart racing, R&D and commercial and hotel complexes.
  • Punctum millennium, great residential zone that supposedly would include fire station, police precinct, University, secondary school, public school, mini water park (announced al beginning of the project), luxury residences with plot, buildings of Official Protection (as buffer between the luxure residences and the racetrack).
