Pinmonkey

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pinmonkey is a country music band formed in 1998, and consists of lead singer Michael Reynolds, brothers Chad (dobro/lap steel) and Michael Jeffers (bass guitar), and Rick Schell on drums.

The name of the foursome comes from an episode of The Simpsons, when Homer Simpson is working at a bowling alley. When asked to come up with a name on the spot for an upcoming gig, Reynolds could only think of one name: "Pinmonkey."

After self-financing a record in 2002 called "Speak No Evil", Rick Alter noticed the talent of the group and later led to the group being signed to an RCA Records contract. Later in October 2002, they released their second, self-titled debut on the BNA Records label, sending the song "Barbed Wire and Roses" to radio. The song became an instant hit on country radio, shooting up to #25 on Billboard magazine's Hot Country Singles chart. A second single, "I Drove All Night", peaked at #36.

The Academy of Country Music nominated Pinmonkey in the Best New Vocal Group category for 2003, but they lost to Emerson Drive.

Pinmonkey then went on tour after their first successful album, and began work on a second one. However, on May 4, 2004, Pinmonkey and BNA Records mutually agreed to part ways, only weeks after releasing a new single titled "Let's Kill Saturday Night".

In 2006, Pinmonkey released a third album, "Big Shiny Cars", on Back Porch Records. The band now cinsists of only Mike Jeffers, Mike Reynolds, and Mike Crouch. The first release, "That Train Don't Run", appeared briefly on the Country Breakout chart, but no other charts.
