Pinback is an indie rock band from San Diego currently signed to Ace Fu Records. The band was formed in 1998 by Armistead Burwell Smith IV a.k.a. Zach (Three Mile Pilot, Systems Officer) and Rob Crow (Heavy Vegetable, Thingy, Optiganally Yours, Physics, Goblin Cock, The Ladies, and Alpha Males).

The name Pinback is a reference to the whiny janitor in the film Dark Star (played by Dan O'Bannon, who also co-wrote the film). Samples from this film are used frequently in the band's early works.
