"Pilot" is the first episode and the pilot of the science fiction television series The 4400.

- "A comet suddenly changes course towards Earth when suddenly it comes in for a "landing", 4400 people, assumed to be dead or missing over the past 58 years, reappear."

A comet is about to pass very closely to the Earth, Tom talks to his unconscious son Kyle who is in a coma.
Suddenly the comet changes course and beings on its heading straight towards Earth. United States, China, United Kingdom and France all launch volleys of missiles towards the incoming comet which fail to stop it. Suddenly, the comet begins to slow, losing speed from mach 7 to mach 2 as if suddenly coming in for a landing.
The comet (described as a "massive ball of light") hovers and slowly turns over a lake, then begins to lose cohesion, turning into flames of light, emitting a sub-sonic sound. It then explodes, releasing a shockwave knocking over everyone in its path. It has disappeared and thousands of people reappear in a cloud of smoke.
Tom Baldwin and Diana Skouris are partnered together to help find the reasons for the 4400s disappearance.
