Pilchuck Glass School is widely recognized as the world's premier glass school. Pilchuck was founded in 1971 by Dale Chihuly and modeled after the prestigious Haystack Mountain School of Crafts. Chihuly, who used Pilchuck as a base for many years, is considered the father of the studio glass movement in the United States and a prominent figure in the revival of American craft.
Pilchuck's curriculum concentrates on technical competence in glass, and leaves artistic expression to the students. Pilchuck provides an opportunity for the best glass artists in the world to meet on a regular basis, and work with emerging artists. The free-wheeling but well-maintained school is situated on over 50 acres of treefarm. Stanwood, Washington is about an hour north of Seattle.
