Pierre Schoendoerffer

Pierre Schoendoerffer (born 1928) is a French film director and writer.

He was born in Chamalières, Puy-de-Dôme, France.

Pierre Schoendoerffer was acclaimed in France at the 1973 Cannes Film Festival for his Drum Crab (Le Crabe Tambour) war movie, but he first met success with his 1965 The 317th Platoon (La 317e Section) Indochina War feature. However, he is most known in the United States through his 1967 Oscar-winning Vietnam War B&W documentary, The Anderson Platoon (La Section Anderson).
