Am I missing something, or should this be at Picture bride?
This article is completely lacking the Japanese side of the equation.
[edit] Oriental exclusion act
Modified this to refer to the Immigration Act of 1924. The Oriental Exclusion Act's proper name is the Chinese Exclusion Act, which was put in place in 1882. It was renewed several times but has no particular connection to the year 1924. --Bookgrrl 03:39, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
Only Korean picture brides?! The novel and book mentioned were both about Japanese picture brides, why aren't the Japanese mentioned? It was a pretty major part of Japanese American history, and its beginning is even listed in the Japanese-American History article as "1908, Japanese picture brides enter the United States". It's how a lot of the Japanese men got their wives in Hawai'i. The deceitful practices of some husbands (the outdated photos, etc.) were also present there, and some wives chose to refuse to marry their husbands and demanded to go back to Japan, and some later abandoned their husbands. Please see: Encyclopedia of Japanese American History: An A-to-Z Reference from 1868 to the Present. Ed. Brian Niiya. Updated Edition. New York: Facts on File, Inc, 2001. for info. I can't do this right now, so could someone please help? 169.229.121.94 08:12, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
Also, the Introduction to the Making of Picture Bride link in the article is pretty good as a source of information. 169.229.121.94 08:13, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
