Picture of the Moon

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

'Picture of the Moon' is a Dutch rock band founded in 2001. The band itself and various reviewers seem to place its music in the progressive metal, progressive rock, or hard rock music genres. The band's official site describes its sound as featuring "...a combination of melodic synth sounds with the melodic backup of the rhythm and solo guitar; bass guitar and drum interactions; and changes in vocals between the occasional grunt and melodic singing." Their influences include Dream Theater, Pagan's Mind and Iron Maiden.

[edit] Biography

Picture of the Moon was founded in Enschede, the Netherlands in 2001 by Sander Rhebergen (the only original member still in the group) and four others: Harrald, Peter, Frank and Sara whose last names are unknown. Michiel Borkent, who joined as keyboardist and vocalist later in 2001, gave the band its name. That same year, Picture of the Moon's drummer (Frank) and female vocalist (Sara) were replaced by Vincent and Anita (last names also unknown), who were also shortly replaced along with Peter. Rudolph Saathoff replaced Vincent on the drums. At this point, the group began working on the three songs released on their first mini-CD. The guitarist, Harrald, quit the band in June 2003 over stylistic differences. Frans Klaver was eventually found as a replacement. Later, Sjoerd Kolk joined as lead guitarist. On July 1, 2004, Picture of the Moon released their first mini-CD, Waxing Crescent under an independent label.
