Pick Up the Tempo was The Stringbeans lowest rated single reaching only #75 on the Zimbabwe singles charts. The reason behind this is rather simple. Many believe that the song was rushed and was too grungy. Many radio stations refused to play it because it had a clear reference to incite anarchy. It was shunned by many (particulary older) citizens as over rebellious.
The B-Side was considered there worst effort out of all the 6 songs they performed. It just didn't suit the posh wealthy white community of Harare, not even the youth. "I Want to get Stoned" was even banned by the government for a particular period for "incitement to encourage drug use".
After this, The Stringbeans eventually disbanded and wen their own separate ways.
