Piano (dynamic)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In musical terminology, piano is a dynamic level lower than mezzoforte and higher than pianissimo. It is typically abbreviated to p on most sheet music. Piano comes from the Italian: piano = slowly/softly.
In marching percussion, piano may refer to the height from which the percussionist is directed to strike the instrument. In this context, p typically refers to a height of between 1 and 3 inches off of the drum, keyboard, or auxiliary percussion.
