  • The Pianist (memoir), a book by Władysław Szpilman, written in Polish in 1945 (original title Śmierć Miasta, literally "Death of a City"). The English translation by Anthea Bell was published in 1999. The memoir describes how Szpilman, a Polish-Jewish musician, survived The Holocaust
  • The Pianist (2002 film), an English-language movie directed by Roman Polański, based on Władysław Szpilman's memoir, starring Adrien Brody as Szpilman
  • La Pianiste (2001 film), an French-language film by Michael Haneke, starring Isabelle Huppert. In English the film was titled The Piano Teacher or The Piano Player in different places
  • El Pianista (1998 film), a Catalan-language film directed by Mario Gas, titled The Pianist in English
  • The Pianist (1991 film), a Canadian film directed by Claude Gagnon

The term pianist was used during the Second World War to designate a spy using radio or wireless telegraphy to keep in touch with headquarters.
