Pia Friedal Lindström was born in Stockholm, Sweden on September 20, 1938. She was the first child of actress Ingrid Bergman and Dr. Aron Petter Lindström. Pia was greatly affected by the scandal between her mother and the Italian director Roberto Rossellini, caused by an out-of-wedlock pregnancy and the subsequent exile of Ingrid Bergman to Italy.
From Ingrid Bergman's subsequent marriage to Roberto Rossellini, Pia has one half-brother and two half-sisters: Roberto Ingmar Rossellini (works in finance), well-known actress/model Isabella Rossellini, and Isotta Ingrid Rossellini (an adjunct professor at NYU).
Pia Lindström was an anchor, and also a Theater & Arts critic for NBC Channel 4 News (in NYC), and has also made TV appearances and done some acting (in mostly foreign films). She has received two Emmy Awards for news coverage and on-screen performance. She has also received the Associated Press Broadcaster's Award.
She is currently married to the attorney John H. Carley. She has two sons (Justin and Nicholas) from her previous marriage to Joseph Daly.
