Photobooks originate from Japan. They are magazine-type books containing glossy photos of currently popular Japanese idols. Photobooks are usually produced by female celebrities, though some are male subject but they are usually less glamorous, and feature a variety of types such as gravure, concert photos or fashion. Some photobooks can be very innocent and playful, yet others can be completely adult in nature. They can contain as few as fifteen photos to as many as one hundred and twenty photos. Unique and stylish names are given to them to distinguish the different editions. They are very popular with fans, as it a good source of high quality photos of a popular celebrity. Many times, an idol who is also a musician will release a small photobook with an album or single release.
Photobooks can be purchased online at Asian online stores, but soon after a photobook is released it can already be found for download on the internet. You also may purchase them in Japan.
It is not unusual of Hello! Project and Morning Musume members to produce many books, as they work with attractive young girls that easily shoot to idol status.
