From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Phoenix Pride Commission is a city board staffed by citizen volunteers who work to create a sense of community pride and promote the unique quality of life in Phoenix, Arizona through the commission’s four goals: [1]

  1. Build a positive sense of community.
  2. Establish "Phoenix Pride" as an organization that improves the internal and external perception of the Phoenix metropolitan area
  3. Educate the residents about cultural diversity
  4. Educate the residents about the significant physical assets in the city

As part of this mission, the Phoenix Pride Commission oversees several programs that identify and promote community resources.

  • Sunday on Central events create a street fair on Central Avenue in downtown Phoenix to promote the outdoor lifestyle of the region supported by the desert climate in conjunction with the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department.
  • Phoenix Points of Pride selection process allows residents to nominate and vote for the local landmarks and attractions designated as a Point of Pride.
  • Phoenix Walk of Pride honors famous Arizonans who have national recognition for their contributions to the state, country, or the world. The inaugural group of 20 people will be recognized in 2006.
