Phoebe Gilman

Phoebe Gilman was an American children's book author and illustrator. She was born in The Bronx New York on April 4, 1940. She lived in Europe, Israel, and settled in Canada in 1972.

She went to The High School of Art and Design, spent a brief time at Humber College and went to Art Students League of New York. She taught for fifteen years at the Ontario College of Art.

Phoebe died of leukemia on August 29, 2002 at age 62. She was survived by her husband, Brian Bender, her three children, Ingrid, Jason and Melissa, and two grandchildren, Ariana and Emily.
