Phil179 is the user name of Phillip Martin George Berghuis. Phillip was born on Feb. 26 1982 in Orange, California. His parents are Frank Martin Berghuis and Marianne Wright Berghuis. His father's side is Dutch/Indonesian, and his father was born in Zutphen, Gelderland, the Netherlands. His mother's side is part German/Irish and part English/French/German. Marianne was born in Lebanon, Illinois.

Phillip's early childhood was spent in Southern California, first in Tustin, and later in the city of Orange. When he was 5, he moved from Southern California to Tracy in Northern California. He lived in Tracy for less than a year and attended half of kindergarten there. From Tracy, he moved to Manteca. This was the last move for a long time, as he stayed in Manteca until he left for college. In Manteca, he attended New Haven Elementary School for kindergarten through eighth grade, and then East Union High School. During his youth, he earned both an amateur radio license and the Eagle Scout rank in Boy Scouts.

In 2000, Phillip graduated from high school. During the summer, he worked with the Boy Scouts as an archery counselor at Camp John C Mensinger. It was during part of this time that he worked with Ty Lopes, who was later convicted of the rape and murder of a girl attending another high school in Manteca. After this summer job, Phillip went to the University of California at Davis as an International Relations major. His freshman year he stayed at the Indio dormitory in the Regan complex. Sophomore year he moved to Alvarado Sunset Apartment complex and joined the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He eventually changed his major to religious studies, and graduated from UC Davis in 2004. He is also employed as a production assistant for Tower Records.

Avid wikipedia user turned contributor. Invented a game with his roommate called "6 Degrees of Existence" in which one has to go from one wikipedia entry to another as quickly as possible. Specializing on wikipedia so far in the Dutch East Indies and Northern California.
