Talk:PhilSports Arena stampede

[edit] Article name
Might I suggest moving this article to Wowowee stampede? That's what the local media is calling it. [1] Coffee 15:35, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
- I don't know. An article named after a gameshow? I think they can call it that because they are located in the city, but we international people can probably just call it the Pasig city stampede.--a.n.o.n.y.m t 15:36, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

- I'm not so sure that the international media is reporting it as "Pasig City stampede". BBC News reports it as the "Manila stadium stampede", for example. I think that Wowowee stampede fits better because:
- Few people know what/where Pasig City is
- The current title implies a stampede in a city, not a stadium
- The fact that the stampede was at a Wowowee recording is significant

- First, I believe that we should wait and see, before the we change the title too quickly. However, I eventually expect this to be moved to Philsports arena stampede. This title is very specific, and global enough for the international community to get an idea where it occured. Naming the article after a city might mislead the reader to thinking that the stampede occured all over a city's streets, which is not the case here. Philsports arena by the ways is the official name of what some people still call today as ULTRA, which is short for University of Life Training and Recreation Arena, according to media sources. --Noypi380 16:30, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
- Agree with everything Noypi said. PhilSports Arena stampede is probably best. Coffee 16:42, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
- Sounds good to me too, and it is consistent with the naming of Hillsborough disaster. This article [2] (see first paragraph) uses the suggested name. --Vsion (talk) 16:46, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
- Great. We now have, through the example of Hillsborough disaster and the external news report, precedents for using Philsports Arena stampede. I just don't know when to move it. Should we move it before the rush of edits coming soon, or after the article stabilizes? --Noypi380 16:55, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
- Done. If anyone has concerns, move it back. --a.n.o.n.y.m t 16:57, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
- Don't forget about double redirects, especially from the Main Page. They should be fixed now. violet/riga (t) 17:04, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

- Careful in wikilinking to Richard Gordon. There is a guy of the same name who is an astronaut. --Noypi380 17:27, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Questions
Just suggesting a few questions for the article. Some may already be answered, and some do not really need to be answered, at least for now.
- Who owns/operates/maintains the PhilSports Complex? Is it private? If yes, who is involved? Is it the government? If yes, which department or agency is involved?
- When was the last upgrade of the facility? Was the facility good enough for the event, or just the best choice in a list of not so good facilities? Is there an inherent flaw in the design of the area? If yes, what did the facility management do to remove the flaws?
- How did the event organizers and facility management respond to the accident? How did the emergency response units respond to the accident?
- What are the efforts of all the parties (public, private, and welfare groups) involved in minimizing the risk of such accidents from happening again? What is the "state of the nation", regarding the country's other like designed and built facilities? Are there any other facilities like PhilSports Complex? Are there any safety hazards in other facilities? If yes, what is being done?

[edit] Bomb
Most media outlets cited a group of boys screaming "BOMBS!" as to the cause of the stampede. Maybe we could try and source and add it? Julz the wizkid 02:59, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
