- October 21: A 5.2 magnitude earthquake hits central Philippines. The quake struck at 10:30 p.m. with its epicenter some 35 kilometers south of Boac, Marinduque. The temblor was felt at intensity 4 in the capital Manila. (Philippine Daily Inquirer)
- October 17: Supporters of opposition stalwart Mayor Jejomar C. Binay of Makati City barricade themselves at the front of city hall as the Department of Interior and Local Government hands out President Arroyo's suspension order against the Mayor, Vice Mayor and seven councilors. (INQ7.net)
- October 11: A bomb exploded at Cotabato City killing and hurting no one. North Cotabato officials blame the Moro Islamic Liberation Front as the perpetrators. (Reuters)

- October 10: Mayor Jose Catindig of Santa Rosa City, Laguna is suspended for six months by the Department of Interior and Local Government for alleged illegal transfer of two city hall employees, which led to tensions at the city hall. - October 2: The University of Santo Tomas defeated the Ateneo de Manila University, 76-74, in overtime, at the deciding third game of the 69th UAAP men's basketball tournament. Their women's counterpart won the Women's championship while the Ateneo juniors team won the Juniors championship. (INQ7.net)
- September 28: Typhoon Milenyo (pictured) causes widespread throughout Luzon, causing at least 70 deaths, destruction to property, suspension of classes and the LRT and MRT, closing down of government offices, suspension of trading at the Philippine Stock Exchange, the paralyzation of the South Luzon Expressway, cancellation of flights at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and a Luzon-wide blackout. - February 24: A state of emergency is declared in the Philippines after a coup against President Gloria Arroyo is foiled.
- February 22 Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Rosales was elevated as cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church making him as the only active and third living cardinal of the Philippines.
- February 17: A mudslide in Saint Bernard, Southern Leyte, Philippines has buried more than 300 homes and an elementary school. An estimated 300 people are killed, with more than 1500 missing.
- February 4: A stampede at a sports stadium in Pasig City, Metro Manila, Philippines, kills 73 and injures more than 320, mostly women. - July 27: Two independent sources confirmed that Virgilio Garcillano took a flight from Subic last July 14, to Singapore, contrary to denials by Philippine authorities. He spent a night in Singapore, and then flew for London.
- July 25: Gloria Macapagal Arroyo delivered her yearly State of the Nation Address, in which she advocated for institutional reforms. Earlier in the day, the main opposition filed for Arroyo's impeachment, with revisions from the previous impeachment charges.
