Philippsthal is a village located in the Northeast of Hesse in central Germany, close to the border to Thuringia.

Philippsthal is situated along the Werra River between the foothills of the Rhön Mountains and the Thuringian Forest.

Bigger Cities in the near of the village are Bad Hersfeld (about 25 km to the West) and Eisenach (about 29 km to the East).
