[edit] Career
Phil Powers was trained by Johnny Kidd before debuting in 1993, Powers went on to team with Paul Tyrrell as the Essex Boys.
In July 2004, Powers made a controversial entry into Revolution British Wrestling. On the evening of Saturday 24th Powers made his debut acting as an official (referee) for all of the evening's contests, Powers would call every match right down the middle, being impartial to all competitors until the shocking events of the RBW British Welterweight Championship main event contest between the reigning Champion, Sammy Ray and challenger, "The Gift" Ross Jordan. Tension was already high, with both wrestlers having crossed paths on several occasions in the past, and Ross Jordan being a former Champion himself.
Powers who is already known as being controversial in his own right in the past, yet a touching speech made by him in relation to the recent death of British wrestling veteran and TV actor "Bomber" Pat Roach and the request to play the British national anthem before the main event got fans to think they were seeing a different side to Powers, or so they were to believe as no one was expecting the following events.
The contest took place, with both wrestlers wrestling competitively with both wrestlers having a good amount of offence on each other, and Powers officiating fairly throughout the contest. When Ross Jordan became frustrated and retrieve the Championship belt, bringing it into the ring with the intention of assaulting Sammy Ray with it. However he was cut short by Powers snatched it off him, seemingly preventing the attack, however in a shocking moment of RBW history, he instead nailed Sammy Ray, causing him to be helpless for the wining pinfall from Ross Jordan. After the contest, Phil Powers declared Ross Jordan the new Champion, and further attacked the fallen Sammy Ray, moments later, Phil Powers unveiled his reasons for doing what he did, claiming that he here to take over RBW and to get rid of wrestlers who represent things that are wrong with British wrestling, with his first port of call being Sammy Ray.
Since then, Powers has been on a rampage through the ranks of RBW, meeting Andy Boy Simmonz, Eamon O'Neill, Jason Rumble, UK Kid, as well as Sammy Ray, determined to prove his point.
Never short of anything to say, Powers looked to make a bigger name for himself, and with the help of his manageress and fellow wrestler, Erin Angel, as well as a possible allegiance with "Anarchist" Doug Williams, it looks as if Phil Powers could be on his way to the top.
Powers would continue to wrestle with the Revolution British Wrestling (which would later become Varsity Pro Wrestling). During the last few RBW shows Phil Powers, one of RBW's top heels lost a match ro one of the promotions main babyfaces, The UK Kid to reignight their feud.
The second show featured an eight man knock out tournament both the UK Kid and Phil Powers would advance through the quarter finals. During the semi finals UK Kid would advance but Powers would lose his match against on/off team mate Doug Williams by forfeit after claiming to be injured. In the finals Doug Williams would defeat the UK Kid following help from Phil Powers.
The UK Kid and Phil Powers would continue their feuding into the debut of VPW. On September 16th 2005 VPW held their debut show from the Horndean Technology College, in which UK Kid cost Powers and Williams a match against the debuting Ballard Brothers getting a bit of revenge from the events months before. VPW would go on to hold two more shows from Horndean before the end of the year, one on October 28th and the other on November 25th. During the first of these last two show UK Kid would win the right to face Phil Powers in a match after defeating a hand picked opponent in Joe E. Legend, but this match would not be fought under the confines of a normal match, it would be a ladder match with the position of VPW spokesmen on the line. It was during the November show that UK Kid would defeat Phil Powers in the ladder match to become the Official VPW Spokesman.
During November Powers would win a tournament for Premier Promotions' vacant PWF (Premier Wrestling Federation) Light-Heavyweight Championship. On February 4th Powers would make his first successful title defence against The UK Kid.
At a VPW show on February 17th, after defeating Irish star, Eamon O'Neill, Powers would cut a promo about how British wrestlers are better than Americans until he was interrupted by Kip James, making his first UK appearance, came out to tell Powers to shut the hell up, the pair would also get into a small shoving match which saw James come out on top. Later that night James faced a rising star in Chris Andrews during the match Powers would try to interfere with the match up only to be disposed off by both men, though this distraction would cost Andrews his match against James.
On the next show in Exeter, Devon one day later, Powers (with his valet Erin Angel) faced Chris Andrews in a singles match. During this match, Erin Angel would try to get involved using her own handbag to hit Andrews but missed and hit her man Powers instead, Andrews would then take the handbag only to get disqualified when the referee saw him hit Powers with it.
Powers not only wrestles he is also a trainer running his own school with Erin Angel in Southampton. He would also become one of the owners of the Real Quality Wrestling promotion along with Len Davies, where he often wrestled before leaving the company in mid-2006. During one show for RQW, called "A New Beginning", Powers would face his former tag team partner Paul Tyrell.
