[edit] Summary
This large member of the Salticidae (jumping spiders) is a Phidippus octopunctatus, female, 16 mm. She is comparatively heavy-bodied for a jumping spider, and much larger that most other species of the Salticidae. While being photographed she was quite calm. These spiders do not have a reputation for being aggressive, but are surely capable of delivering defensive bites.
