[edit] Custer?
What's up with this Custer category? Why can't you just use "What links here" to find references to him? BTW, what's the connection with George McClellan? Hal Jespersen 15:07, 18 July 2005 (UTC)
- Hello, I made the Custer Category because you cannot find all of the information on his page that pertains to him and I thought a category would be easier. Also, I made the category because he is an American icon of sorts (there are hundreds of books about him) and I have noticed that other American icons have their own categories. As for George McClellan, he is the one that really gave Custer his chance to advance by making him his aide-de-camp. Hope that helps you to understand what I am doing!

Well, I can't say I agree with you, although I suppose you aren't doing any harm (other than setting an examples others may emulate). Using a manually maintained set of category pointers ought to be inferior to letting the system manage the pointing ["What links here" feature]. IMHO, if there is some significant linkage between two topics, such as the McClellan-Custer relationship, there should be links in both articles pointing that out. McClellan's article says nothing about Custer, which is justifiable, because McClellan fans (if there are any :-)) may care nothing about Custer.
BTW, the section in the Custer article on the Civil War is pretty weak. I'll update it when I get a chance. His contribution in the CW is more significant than most people understand today, overshadowed by LBH. Hal Jespersen 16:10, 18 July 2005 (UTC)
