[edit] Your Pets

Wow you must be so busy with all your pets! I have a betta and could you please give me some tips on caring for them because yours sound like they are very healthy. Thanks. Jam 07:49, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Dog article styles

Welcome to the dog breed project and thanks for your work.

The usual way to present text is in an encyclopedic narrative form (complete sentences, for example). So the recent additions to Coton de Tulear need to be turned into full sentences with flowing paragraphs. Just thought I'd let you have the opportunity to make a first pass rather than jumping in myself immediately. Ask if you have any questions. Elf | Talk 20:33, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

There's a really great picture of a Coton on a Madagascar Postage Stamp on this web site: Coton History. Since this is in public domain (as a postage stamp, obviously), we can use it, right? There's also a picture of Glen Close with her pet Coton, but that, I'm sure is Copyrighted. I don't know how to add pictures, so can you help?

[edit] German Pointers

Hi there. User:DuckersOfOutracks recently added some "commonly reffered" [sic] names to German Longhaired Pointer, German Wirehaired Pointer, and German Shorthaired Pointer. However, I fail to find any use of these terms, and they rather look like original research to me. As you moved one of these to alternative names, did you do that for aesthetic reasons, or is that term actually in use? --Nikai 11:35, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks a lot! Cheers, Nikai 17:37, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] American Buffalo

Thanks for editing the images. Would you mind tryin one where they overlapp just slightly, obverse left and slightly above so as to not obscure any of the reverse. May come out to small, like the side by side one. If to much trouble, don't sweat it. THNX Joe I 12:59, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, for FP. Check here. Basically like the nickels are at the very top. If you go down the page slightly, there are American Buffalo overlaps, but part of the buffalos are blocked by the indian. The edges of the coins are no problem to block, but the main images(indian and buffalo), would not be. If you have to rotate the coins around each other in some other way thats cool. Was just lookin for a way for them to seem more connected and together, otherwise it looks like two pictures. Joe I 13:23, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
Looks great, thnx :) Joe I 13:40, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Portuguese Pointer

Thanks for the improvements in the article. I included a picture of my own dog. I don't know if the picture is the best, but I couldn't make it stand, as he spends 90% of the time sleeping. He is 11 years old and I never seen other dogs of the same breed, only in magazines. The black thing in his left ear is a bunch of flies, it's summer and everything is full of them. If you need help, just say. Cheers!

[edit] Your edits to the American Buffalo images

I notice you uploaded three edited images to the American Buffalo coin nomination (Image:2006 American baffalo proof.jpg, Image:American buffalo proof vertical.jpg and Image:American buffalo proof diagonal.jpg). Unfortunately none of them were promoted, and as such there are not used in any articles. Would you mind if I deleted them as redundant images? Raven4x4x 09:24, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Siamese Fighting Fish - vandalism revert

Thanks for getting rid of that vandalism on the page. I have no idea what spurred that vandal on. Once again, nice work getting rid of that junk (vandalism). Jam01 07:21, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Edits to Pointer breed

Please refrain from editing breeds you are not familiar with, or an expert on. Pointers are not a common breed, and adding and removing links explaining breed history is not helpful to other users. If you have not read through a site which is linked there, kindly refrain from removing it. PS, I see you continue to change items you have no familiarity with. Again, please leave the page alone.

[edit] Golden Retriever

No, The Retriever picture will keep going up, Its not a bad thumbnailed picture and user can quite clearly see if without having to click it. And the Retriever pictures you have taken down saying they don't show the breed well. Your wrong,People want to know what the older version of the dogs looks like,Just because they dont meet 'YOUR' standards, Doesn't meant a potential retriever buyer won't want to see what their pup will grow up into. Rob ashton

The persian cat picture will keep going up, he is a fine specimen, Not all pictures are 100% perfect,You know naff all by the sounds of it,It is clear enough for the human eye to see, Its not like the persian looks like a bleedin Dalmation.... N33B Rob ashton

[edit] Heermann's Gull

OK, sorry for the delay, but I've uploaded the 'original' image of the gull now (I say 'original', because it's a JPEG, and not RAW. Sadly I wasn't shooting RAW that day). Anything you can do to make it FP-worthy would be appreciated. Thanks. offsite link to image --Dante Alighieri | Talk 19:04, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks! I replaced the image that was in use with your edited version. Check it out here, you may need to purge the cache to see your version. --Dante Alighieri | Talk 23:18, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] English pointer

This was done at the request of a representative of the AKC to the Foundation via OTRS (our ticketing system). She pointed out that the name is incorrect and no such breed is registered either by the AKC or FCI. I have attempted to clarify that in the article and added a brief section on name. The Redirect from English pointer should suffice. Danny 14:36, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Common Crossbill FPC

I notice you opposed the Common Crossbill Featured Picture Candidate, saying the picture was 'Gorgeous, but too small'. I'm just letting you know that a larger version has been uploaded, which you might want to take a look at. Raven4x4x 11:22, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hummingbird Hawk-moth FPC

Hi! You supported the Hummingbird Hawk-moth FPC (like everyone else who commented), but HighInBC uploaded an edit that absolutely no-one commented on. I can't promote the image without knowing which version to promote, so now I have to ask everyone which version they prefer. Would you mind specifying which image you are supporting? Thanks. [edit] Your bio

Thanks for your warm welcome to Wiki-land. I am a retired proofreader (of sorts) and while reading your bio I espied an apparent typo: "...[I] scored "fist class honours" [on my piano exam]..." Does this mean you play the piano with your fists?

--Begonial 16:25, 5 September 2006 (UTC) (Note: I decided to use an internet style username for my signature rather than my real name that I naively used when I registered)

Thanks for your help putting Infobox into horses. Would you make a note to designate in the "Honors" box U.S. Racing Hall of Fame and the Top 100 U.S. Racehorses of the 20th Century. Thanx. Handicapper 23:16, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Photo edits? Why?`

Curious about two of your article edits. On the American quarter horse article, you removed the width formatting command and the "right" command from both images. Why? I am all for learning new tricks on Wikipedia to get better at this, but I also have run across a lot of articles with HUGE photos and thought saying something like "200px" fixed the width and kept them from getting too big. What does "thumb" alone do? The images look the same.

Also wonder why you put the request on the Arabian horse (talk) page for a photo. The talk page doesn't need photos, and the Arabian article now has as many as it really can hold--I think I put out a request for photos months ago, and don't even remember how to find the page where I posted it so I can remove the request. Anyway, the Arabian horse article doesn't need photos now, though if someone had one that was an improvement in quality over what's there, that could be useful. (Most "improved" photos were removed because they actually were not representative of the breed, or are "here's my own pony/isn't he cool?" sorts of things...)

Anyway, let me know what was going on with those photo edits. And can we take out the photo request flag from the talk page? Montanabw 01:58, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply. While I agree with you that it would be nice to headline the Arabian horse article with a better image than the painting (I added the painting, sort of in desperation), getting a GOOD photo has been a nightmare. (Pardon the pun) Commons doesn't have a suitable image that showcases a good representative of the breed in a fair and flattering manner, and everything else I can find is "fair use" at best (though I might be able to find pre-1923 B&W photos, though they wouldn't be an improvement on the painting, I don't think. I think I put out a request a while back, and what came in that wasn't "my little pony that I think is an Arab," was soapbox and promotional stuff like, "here's my stallion that should be gelded, but I took this photo and doesn't he look like a champion?" <sigh> So, I agree that a basic conformation shot IS a really good idea, until something new comes in, or I talk someone into releasing a quality photo under a GNU license, I am just sort of worried about the crap that could emerge. Don't mean to be cynical, and thanks for allowing me to vent! Montanabw 01:53, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] "Random" breeds

Hi, check out Portal:Dogs/Selected breed. We can add new breeds to the list and they will be randomly displayed. We also could do the same sort of thing for articles and pics, if we get more set up to show. :-) Rfrisbietalk 19:18, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Portal:Dogs/Selected picture is good to go now too. Rfrisbietalk 21:55, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Dog breed nominations

Hi, Pharaoh Hound. The "nominations" section on the portals really is for people who don't know how to add things themselves as part of the featured portal expectations. Because you're one of the maintainers, just keep adding things as you always have. Since you put the old english sheepdog in the nominations section, I'll go ahead and add it. :-) Regards, Rfrisbietalk 13:23, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 85.92.183.119 spam

Thank you for leaving a message on the above user's talk page. Since I'm relatively new to WP, can you tell me why we're waiting any longer before implementing an edit block for this IP address? It is pretty clear from their "contributions" that they are simply working their way through the dog breeds in alphabetical order and inserting their spam link of choice. At last count, I believe they've done this on 15+ different breed pages. --Keesiewonder 00:40, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

  • Thanks for your reply and info! I wish this user's block was longer. It is for 31 hours. Want to bet they never notice, or simply wait a few hours if they do, and then resume their spamming? There's a part of me that would like to see WP move such that someone could not make edits unless they created an account, other than whatever their IP address happens to be. Have you seen any discussion on this? I expect it to be a very controversial idea. BTW, I have to think that I helped get the block, along with you, since last evening I cleaned up all their remaining mess that I could find. Regards, --Keesiewonder 12:48, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
