Congratulations!

I don't think we've ever met, but it's difficult to miss your many contributions to Wikipedia and frequent kind words to other editors. I was so pleased to see that you'd been made an admin - I know you'll do an excellent job! - Tapir Terrific 00:05, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Now an admin

Well, what hasn't been said of your recent successful RfA? I wish I could say "congratulations" without it sounding remotely similar to a cliché and I'm sorry I could not extend my congrats to you earlier, but I was at my family reunion, far away from a computer, from 4-6 August. Sadly and also very regrettably, I missed your birthday as well. Consider this a multi-purpose comment and substitute the other some-260 supports as a substitute for my own. Aaрон Кинни (t) 02:20, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. Aaрон Кинни (t) 02:52, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your thanks

Hi Sharon,

Wow, your RfA thank you message was a true and unexpected pleasure! It really put a smile to my face that you, the very soul of friendliness and warmth, would look up to me and talk about my own. Thank you very much, it means a lot to me that someone as renowned (and supported!) as you would notice a little WikiGnome such as myself. :-) And thank you for the kind thoughts on my son. He is fine now; there was nothing serious with him, he's just very weak and tired right now. But thank you for your kind thoughts, and thank you especially for making my day. I'm sure we'll talk more again, and I'm glad that you consider me a friend. :-) --Deathphoenix ʕ 03:01, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

You're very welcome. We just need a few more people like you on Wikipedia to brighten up the darkness... Fredil Yupigo 14:41, 8 August 2006 (UTC) PS: What happened to the formatting here!? 23:49, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Aloha!

Sharon,

You're RfA thanks message was, quite simply, amazing; I loved it that much I even printed it out! :) Your warm words were gratifyingly lovely; I like that warm feeling inside. I am also glad to see someone that enjoys '80s music, it is just amazing, isn't it? We should discuss more soon! Warm thanks, Iolakana|T 16:19, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Userifying

Hi, typically when you userify something, it's best to make it a subpage of the main userpage of the user you are moving it for. It looks like you put something directly at User:EnglishPatientNY in this case. The only reason to do that would be if the user said this was their bio or whatever, which maybe is the case here. I'd be happy to discuss this further with you if you like... ++Lar: t/c 18:32, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

On reflection, maybe this is sorted... never mind. ++Lar: t/c 02:56, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

HUZZAH!

Congratulations on your successful RfA. Had I gone over therein time, I would definitely have also given my support:

Support - User is amazingly personable and is among the best Wikipedians. Why has this person not been given admin status earlier?

Again, congratulations. ~ Porphyric Hemophiliac § 23:44, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

What should this header say?

You can use this if you like instead of the other one, which turns out to be the Society Barnstar. :)
You can use this if you like instead of the other one, which turns out to be the Society Barnstar. :)

It should say a lot of things…but I don't know which one to choose.

I know I am only adding to this backlog more, but I couldn't resist talking some to the local Wiki-celebrity! :D First few things are a bit technical (like the format of the Moodmetre, my picture and my archive box in that order on my talk page, which needs cleanup; and a little thing in the "header" of my love page—if a is available for the cursor, could you figure out how that works?, because I cant…and the Verdana font is optional, and one other page which needs {{flagicon}} correction)…

My wife and the baby are doing well so far. She sleeps a lot because she is tired and a little green in the face but that's normal so I'm happy. It's (or they're if we have twins) due in February.

I hear it's a little warm in your part of the USA…I read ≈100°F? It was ≈90° here today, but I don't know whether we're cooling of or warming up (it's been that warm for a week).

Out of biting, eating-up curiosity that I know is just me but other people say is a trademark of the Irish—do you play any musical instruments? I'd have to say my favourite instrument is the violin, but I don't play it—I make noise with it. :| But I'm really good at the guitar and OK at the piano.

I realized I gave you the Society Barnstar instead of the Barnstar Barnstar, so you may use either…or both, if you like! (It would look better!) :)

Well, I think I'm done rambling for tonight, so I'll finish. Keep up the good work giving our barnstars; using the mop, bucket and keys; and with that Portal! Big, warm hugs from your devoted ally, —$ΡЯΙNGεrαgђ (-C|ε|L|T-) 02:24, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

And terribly sorry! I was out of town - many congrats, you will be a wonderful addition to the Admins. KillerChihuahua?!? 14:58, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Congratulations. Here are what pass for words of wisdom from the puppy:
  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
  5. Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
  6. and finally, Remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

Heya

Not a problem, I know where to find ya. Thanks for the nice comments. As for This link, I don't know when it will turn blue, I realized that self-nominations are kind of a RfA suicide except in some cases, especially since I am disliked my some. So I need to wait until someone else nominates me (like you maybe!)

Also, thanks for the flower. I think I'll find a nice place on my user page to put it... ~ Porphyric Hemophiliac § 22:06, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

You are more than welcome

Dear Sharon Phaedriel:

Your card was absolutely charming. With the sad (though possibly temporary) departure of Crzrussian from the administrator ranks, I'm especially glad to know you'll be joining them. How do you ever have the time to do anything if you make a personalized card for over 200 people? You have not ceased to amaze me. I wonder if you also read the other line I wrote in your RFA, about your probably having to kick kittens to compensate for such inhuman niceness? I can't wait to see the first use of your flamethrower charged with rose petals.

Dearest Vandal: I hope you enjoy the time off period sometimes known as a block, and do not see it as a punishment, but, instead, as an opportunity to stop and smell the flowers...

Userbox

I was doing userbox work and I found a userbox that suits you (there are others that seem to suit you as well). I removed the TV show reference (by substing the userbox) so it's not like I'm shamelessly plugging a TV show (which isn't the point):

Cleaning up mess

Hello, I see that you're helping clean up the mess made by 67.186.97.192. One thing I noticed that he botched the welcome for MartinDK (talk contribs). I replaced the welcome message with a proper one, but would it be possible to delete the two previous entries? It just doesn't seem right to me that the first two edits on a new editor's talk page are from a prankster. Thanks. -- Gogo Dodo 07:10, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Thank you. =) I probably shouldn't have said "Proper", but oh, well... Congratulations on your recent adminship, too. -- Gogo Dodo 07:21, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

My Editor Review

Hey, thanks for taking the time to review me! Really, I hadn't thought too much about my article space edits recently, so it was very useful to hear that I need to work on bumping them up before I consider running for an Rfa. Thanks for pointing that out to me: I'll be working more in the article space from now on, to see if I can get things up to snuff. :) RandyWang (chat me up/fix me up) 07:59, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Your most original block notices

I just noticed the block notices you've been giving vandals - I must commend you on your originality! I'd be interested in seeing whether kindly-worded notes have any effect on vandal recidivism rates as opposed to stern warnings. Abdullah Geelah 18:25, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

My that's a big signature you have there. Sharon gets a lot of requests, you may just want to be added into the queue of people who are hoping that she might be able to do some of her magic on their page... asking that she watch your page while you're on holiday might be a bit much. Just set a wikibreak notice and if it gets vandalised, it most likely will be reverted by the recent changes patrol guys. ++Lar: t/c 22:15, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Another utterly superfluous "get well soon" header

Hello Phaedriel. I have just a few little matters that I must get off my chest. Firstly, congratulations on your Adminship. I hope you are enjoying and will enjoy your new AdminPowersTM - you certainly deserve them. Secondly (though related to the first point), I noticed that you are yet to give me a thank-you card. I see you uploaded one: Image:RfathxCelestianpower.jpg, but you failed link it to my talk page. I just assumed that you forgot me, like everyone else does *sniff*, but it'd be nice to get it on my talk all the same :).

Thirdly, please get well ever so soon. You don't deserve to be ill in the slightest, and we need you not to be. It's your duty not to catch colds, since you're now a custodian.

Thanks and the kindest of regards, —Celestianpower háblame 15:13, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Deletion of Buy4Now

Hi

That deletion was not a CSD G4, primarily as the content was not "substantially identical copy" of the original article. As you're an admin, you should be able to compare content. As goes its notability, etc, thats for an AfD to decide - and as the old one was on a majorly different article, CSD doesn't apply. I'd appreciate if you'd restore the article, and AfD it if you so wish. --Kiand 04:23, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

She may not get your message right away. You can ask any admin to restore it, or you could take it straight to Deletion Review yourself. I looked at a few of the deleted versions and do agree that ther does seem to be some difference in the content but the most recent version I looked at didn't assert notability. You can let me know what you'd like to do if you want, I'm an admin and can undelete and list it for you. ++Lar: t/c 14:22, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

I don't know if it's a good idea semi-protecting your user talk page however. Your fame & kindness preceeds you; what I'm thinking is, is what if a new user, looking for advice from an admin such as yourself, tries to post here for advice? They might be forced to come to one of the other, less likeable admins, or worse, a non-admin! Anyway, hope you've had a good day etc. See you later... :) !Spawn Man 23:59, 22 August 2006 (UTC)!

Sḵwxwú7mesh-ulh Uxwumixw

I know, I can't pronounce it either; it means Squamish Nation and someone named OldManRivers moved it freom Squamish Nation to this; and bypassed a similarly-named page, which apparently wasn't correct for not having an accent here or there, and left that other page blank (I just made it a redirect). Pls see my comments on his talk page, and, well, we kind of have this problem in BC as most of the "cultural correct" names tend to be very remote in form/appearance from how the peoples are known in English; some are straightforward and we're used to dealing with them - Nuu-chah-nulth, Nuxalk, Kwakwaka'wakw, Sto:lo, St'at'imc (Sto:lo, St'at'imc and Nuxalk aren't "correct" though as they're missing accents). My main issue here is expecting English speakers to use non-English names; does someone speaking Sḵwxwú7mesh-ulh snichim say "English" when speaking Sḵwxwú7mesh-ulh snichim, for example, or do they say, as in Sto:lo, a phrase meaning "language of the hungry people"? You're the first admin name associated with the Indigenous project I saw this morning so I landed it in your busy lap. If there's someone better to broker/abrogate this pls forward it; after my coffee(s) I'll try and put a piece on it re the Indigenous project's talk page.Skookum1 17:50, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

I think you may be waiting a while to get a reply from Sharon. It seems to me that on the English Wikipedia that's not a reasonable name for an article - we don't use Japanese characters after all. There's also a mess of redirects which need to be sorted out. I'm tempted to revert it. One thing puzzles me and that's where the edit history has got to... [4] shows the page move as the first entry. Any ideas anyone? Lar? --kingboyk 17:56, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

Gotta love the Spam

Hey there Phaedriel! Been going through and cleaning up some spam stuff dicovered in an AfD. Myself, along with Crunchy Numbers, have been having to clean up what Brian Radwell has done. His editing contribs are nonsense spam such as this. I pretty sure he is the same person as Likes2draw, who has almost no history. Users contribs are here. I’m not sure on process for getting something on the notice board. It looks like violations in WP:SPAM and WP:SOCK. He has re-created deleted articles under different titles from what I understand. Could you help me not attack this user, but just get him to stop? Thanks so much. :-) JungleCat talk/contrib 17:28, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Polls:

Hi. I'm just sending out a message for a new study I will be undertaking soon. It will involve surveys & polls to gather information & trends of editors on Wikipedia & other subjects. The data gathering will involve yourself recieving a questionaire on your talk page for you to fill out. I will then collect your questionaire & combine it with data from other editors. If you would like to be a part of this experiment, or know of someone who does, place a "Yes" or "No" below this message. HI

What do you think of this video?[5] According to your User page it seems like you feel very 'oppressed.' — [Mac Davis] (talk) (Desk|Help me improve)

Mac, this video approaches a sensitive subject with inflammatory language. Also, your use of quotation marks around the word "oppressed" seems to suggest that you are challenging what you see as Sharon's view of herself. If Sharon were around, I'm sure she would know a great way to respond to your post with lots of positive energy and wikilove. But she isn't around right now, and a lot of editors watch this talk page, and a lot of those editors feel strongly about supporting Sharon. I'm concerned that a post like this could begin an argument that might have little positive impact on the encyclopedia. Have you considered trying to contact Sharon off-wiki with your question? --Allen 07:12, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
Did you watch the entire video? No, I haven't, I'm sorry to not see any future arguments among multiple users. Thanks for the advice. The quotes were my way of questioning how she felt, because I am not sure. I didn't mean to be third-personly insulting her, I meant to ask her what she thought of the points raised in the video. — [Mac Davis] (talk) (Desk|Help me improve)
Thanks for the elaboration. And yes, I did watch the whole video. --Allen 16:58, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for bringing this very interesting video to my attention, dear Mac. Although I really feel like punched in the stomach after seeing it, and even more to have my feelings towards my race and our past questioned right here, truly, thank you. Now I'm really not in the mood to go in depth about my thoughts on the subject right now, so if you excuse me, dear, I think I'll give you my thoughts at you talk page someday, k? Racism on user page

Hi,

I don't mean to be a jerk, but I was a bit offended by some of the apparently racist statements on your userpage, especially "It is feeling the stares of all the whites in any public place you walk into [emphasis mine]." Though I understand the staring, and the underlying biggotry it indicates, is probably all too common, and I fully support making people aware of this no doubt hurtful problem, I don't think all white people can be accused of doing that. I won't make a big deal out of it, but I'd appreciate it if you'd tone down the statement.

Thanks. Grindingteeth 02:58, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

I see your point, and I also don't want to be a jerk, but since that is a quote from a web site, it should probably be left alone. Also, even if it was her saying that, I would stand with her, because I believe too many American Indians are being (for lack of a better term, and I don't mean this in a physical sense) abused too often here where they have lived since the Tower of Babel—or whatever you believe they came from. Now, am I part American Indian? No, I'm fully Irish for the record, but I said that to show "the world" so to speak that I'm not just jumping on the bandwagon, defending my people because they're my people. —  $PЯINGεrαgђ  03:16, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
I think you're reading far too much into it Grindingteeth. First, I'm not sure whether you do this or not since I don't know you at all, but I'd like to ask--how often do you call white people on their racist statements? Because unless you do that as well, I don't think you should be criticizing a Native American of racism, especially for something as trivial as that. A remedy for the status of your MoodMetre...

Kyoko has returned (obviously if she returned, she had to have left)! ;) There is an essay she wrote about her absence which explains most of it, plus a small tidbit left on my talk page. I know you have a thing for cheering people up (I've yet to see the good old Sharon hug fail), so as well as her request that I do this, it is also me doing this so you can work your magic. ;) —  $PЯINGεrαgђ  18:06, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

Re: Thank-you card

You're welcome; I was pleased to offer my support. — Knowledge Seeker 21:11, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

May I ask why your talk page is semi-protected? Talk pages, in general, should not be, especially for administrators. — Knowledge Seeker 21:13, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
This user seems to be mostly absent of late. The protection log shows that User:Sceptre protected it on 30 July. It seems to attract a high level of vandalism, although it also is on a fair number of watch lists. If you think this protection is inappropriate you could take it up at the Requests for Page Protection page. ++Lar: t/c 22:13, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
Talk pages, especially that of an administrator, should rarely if ever be protected, and protection for two months is an absurd length of time. This is inappropriate. It doesn't seem to be listed on Wikipedia:List of protected pages either, so I removed the protection. — Knowledge Seeker 04:21, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
Absurd seems rather a strong term. This administrator is not active (you didn't get answered by her, did you?) so I'm not really seeing the harm in having the page (semi) protected. I don't revert war but I think your just removing it without discussing it may not be the best approach. I'll be restoring it if there is any vandalism that isn't instantly reverted, and listing it in the appropriate place. ++Lar: t/c 05:45, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

This is absurd. SP isn't meant to pre-empt vandlaism; it's only to be used in extreme cases when there is so much vandalism that it becomes bothersome to revert and clutters up the history. I've had situations where I thought SP was warranted but the sysops disagreed. Obviously, SP is discouarged as much as possible and used only in extreme circiumstances. Hbdragon88 07:20, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

The page is not semiprotected as of this writing. I'm not seeing a real issue to belabor this point but Phaedriel was the target of some particularly unsavoury and pernicious attacks. I'll repeat myself to be clear, if I see vandalism that the community isn't doing a good job of clearing, or if there are anon edit summaries that attack, as there were before, I'll semiprotect this page again, and take the heat for it myself (I wasn't the protector last time, but I will be this time). I will do so whether you think it absurd, inappropriate, or whatever term you choose, or not. ++Lar: t/c 14:52, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

I wish I could cheer you up

Hi Phaedriel, I saw that you were feeling melancholic, and I wish I could cheer you up. I'm not sure if we've ever actually corresponded (I did leave a get-well message one time under my prior nick "Tachikoma", and I also supported your RfA), but I do look up to you as a model of sweetness and kindness. I hope you feel better soon. --Kyoko 22:08, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Your (Kyoko's) essay is very inspiring, thanks for sharing it with the rest of the community. ++Lar: t/c 22:13, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Well, if you say that my essay was inspiring, then I guess so... Personally, it doesn't have that effect on me, but it's probably because I end up reliving all that's happened whenever I look at it.
At the risk of adding even more to Phaedriel's backlog, I really do hope she feels better soon. --Kyoko 14:15, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
Any comment like that deserves to be added to the backlog. :) (Now of course, she could just move this entire page into an archive, but that may cause its own problem.) ;) — $PЯINGεrαgђ 15:35, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Portal needs new features!

Hi Phaedriel, I just made Portal:Indigenous peoples of North America the "Portal of the Month" at Portal:Browse. Then I noticed its featured sections need to be updated for October! Could you find someone to do that? Rfrisbietalk 13:18, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Seeing as Phaedriel's on an extended wikibreak, it may be best to find a couple of willing and knowledgable members of WikiProject Indigenous peoples of North America (I've heard that User:ish ishwar and Skookum1 are knowledgable on the subject, and I've had good experiences with User:Kevin Myers) and see if anyone there can help. I see you've put up a notice on the wikiProject's talk page, so that will hopefull get some people interested, but, unfortunatley, I doubt Phaedriel will be avaliable for awhile. Hope I've been of some help :) Thε Halo Θ 13:54, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks, I'm going to just copy over the September pages to October and let the project know. Rfrisbietalk 14:06, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
Glad I could help a bit ;) Seems like your solution is a good idea. Thε Halo Θ 14:14, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
It turns out I couldn't find "September" subpages, so I picked some items from the applicable archives. I also put a note at the project. Rfrisbietalk 15:06, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Congratulations on your pregnancy, and good luck! And just for fun, here's the same thing in French: Félicitations de ta grossesse, et bonne chance! A bold move

It is rather a bold move to publicly announce that you're to be a mother, and one, were I in your shoes, I am not sure I would have made, but my hat is off to you for choosing to do so. I'm glad you did though, as it allows me to say publicly rather than privately: Heartiest congratulations and best wishes! ++Lar: t/c 14:42, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

Wow, congratulations!!!

No wonder you haven't been very active recently!!!

That's great, though. You'll make such a wonderful mother. I had no idea you were married (or with a serious boyfriend, or what have you).

For some reason I get lots of new-mother gifts in the mail (don't ask me why), so if you ever want any forwarded or anything, just let me know - if you have a PO Box that is; I wouldn't be comfortable giving my address to a stranger! I have no use for them.

Anyway, I'm glad to hear that you're pregnant - I'm sure your little boy or girl (or both!) will be quite a blessing. :)

Request for some HTML formatting assistance

Looking at your user page, I'm going to say that your HTML skills are better than mine.

No rush at all on this, so whenever, if ever, you have time and could take a look. I think it should be simple, and I can get it to look fine on IE 6 running on XP (which is the current version), but there are many browsers (Safari on the Mac and Firefox 2 on Ubuntu (Linux) are two I know for sure) where the layout isn't working. I've played around with using tables and <div>s to get it to work and I'm sure I'm just missing something simple. The layout is at Poker probability (Omaha)#Derivations for making rank-based hands. What I'm trying to accomplish is explained on the talk page.

Thanks, and congratulations on your pregnancy! Don't know if this is your first, but parenthood will change your life like nothing else—there's nothing I enjoy more than being a Dad. —Doug Bell talkcontrib 08:32, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

There is nothing more precious than a baby. Congratulations on your newest, most difficult, but most rewarding job, a mother. -Yancyfry 05:50, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

User page request

Hi Phaedriel,

You claim to like doing up user pages, and I would be very grateful if you could take a look at mine. At first glance it looks fine, but if you make the window smaller then you really start to notice things. Just sorting it out would be great, but if you feel like completely revamping it, that's fine by me. Please don't feel obliged to do a complete revamp, though, I'm sure you've got a lot to do.

My thanks in advance, CarrotMan 18:56, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
