Phase constant

In electromagnetic theory, the phase constant is the imaginary component of the propagation constant for a plane wave. It is represented by the symbol β.

$\beta = \frac{2\pi}{\lambda}$

For a lossless transmission line:

$\beta = \omega \sqrt(LC)$
