Phantasmagore is the 2006 sophomore follow-up to 2002's Commencement, by the rock band Deadsy. It was released August 22, 2006 through Immortal Records. Phantasmagore had been delayed numerous times since its original release date in 2004, citing label issues and overall complications. Although many other "released" demos and clips have been circulated over the past few years, the eleven-song tracklisting seemed to be the finalized list. A video shoot for the supposed first single, "Book of Black Dreams" was planned for June, but had to be rescheduled. It is unknown if "Book of Black Dreams" will remain the first single, or if Deadsy have decided on another song.

The album leaked on or around July 31, 2006. This could be due to the band selling copies of the album while on the Family Values Tour, before the actual public release of the album.

[edit] Miscellanea

  • Korn frontman Jonathan Davis commented: "This band makes important music. This is a breakthrough record."[1]
  • Track 9 ("Phantasmagore") contains elements from Tangerine Dream's "No Future (Get Off the Babysitter)" from the Risky Business original soundtrack.
  • Track 10 ("Time") was originally titled "Sands of Time" and contains elements of Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song". The synthesizer melody is a direct melodic reference to the song, and the accompanying guitar riffs may be somewhat derived from the song as well.

[edit] B-sides

There are several tracks which were recorded but did not make it onto the album. One of these, Colossus (dating back to a recording date of 2002), which features a guest slot from Aimee Echo of theSTART, was given to Myspace members who participated a promotional effort. There have been rumors that there will be a special edition of the CD in the future featuring extended artwork and additional tracks, but no announcements have been made by the band regarding these rumors. The following tracks have been mentioned by the band in various interviews, yet did not appear on the album:

  • Friends
  • Do You Want it All?
  • Comforter Cave
  • Heaven & Earth
  • Acacia

"Friends" was released exclusively on iTunes. Other tracks are rumored to be released in other means of promotion. The track "My Only Friend" appeared on the soundtrack for the movie Winter Passing and was recorded along with the Phantasmagore tracks.

Also rumored for inclusion was the track "Dreamcrusher" which existed as an incomplete demo mp3 officially released by the band around the time of Commencement as "A taste of things to come". Whether or not this track was ever considered for inclusion on Phantasmagore is currently unknown. Another was previously known as "Razor", but this was most likely the working title for the song "Razor Love".
