Phajje ke Paye

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Phajje ke Paye is one of the best known traditional food outlets in Lahore. The original restaurant is located within the city's red light district, better known locally as Shahi Mohalla or Hira Mandi. Several other branches exist around Lahore, including on Food Street.

The main dish sold is siri paya - goat's shins slow-cooked in a fatty, spicy stew. They are usually eaten with thick soft naan bread. Originally relished for breakfast by residents of Walled City of Lahore, paye are now eaten at all times - Phajja sells them until past midnight. Phajja is a popular corruption of Fazl-i-Haq, the name of the place's founder.
